Hi Guys
Would appreciate some assistance please.
I wish to load a 110 grain FMJ RN Bullet with Vihtavuori N135 powder. for my 30-30 Win carbine.

Load Data show 3 loads on their website but I am unable to open the page showing the actual powder weights.
I understand that the info can also be found in the 7th edition of the Hornady Reloading Manual.

Would be very grateful if someone could provide me with the powder weights.

Thanks
Yamavira.:(

stevespages or handloads.com for reloading has tons of data to LOOK at. I would get a manual to check before using online stuff. maybe glance at one in a gunshop. But just like when i first was a mechanic.....if you need a tool more than once, you should buy it.

but you should own more than 1 manual, DONT solely rely on ONLINE data..... try bulllet manufacturer wesbites too and find one that make a similar bullet and make your best judgment

Once you have multiple manuals you will rarely even want to look at online data anymore.....

Hornady #6 does not list VIHT-135 for use with 100 or 110 grain bullets.
They only list it with 150 grain and heavier bullets.

They do list VIHT-130 with the 110 grain at 21.9 Starting = 2,100 FPS.
31.4 MAX = 2,600 FPS.

Are you proposing to load a 110 grain full metal jacket (fmj) in a 30-30 lever action? Is it the fmj intended for 30 carbines? If you are planning on loading more than 2 at time, there may be some concerns with filling the tube with fmj bullets?

30-30 Win Loading data

Hi Zeke
Yes I am loading a 110 grain RN bullet to use in a Marlin U/L.
I am fully aware safety dictates that I must NOT load more than 2 rounds into the tube magazine. The first to be immediately chambered for firing.
An explanation. Here in the UK unless you give good reason (such as having written permission to stalk deer over land) you are NOT allowed to buy or possess ammuntion or bullets which expand (Jail, $2000 fine. Loss of firearms licence etc etc !!).
That said if you do have the authority to buy/possess expanding ammuntion you are NOT permitted to fire it on target ranges. As you are aware most of the FN 30-30 bullets are expanding bullets. Therefore to use my rifle I am using RN 110 grain bullets with a variety of powders. I have been using Varget & H4895 with satisfactory results. Used data from the Hodgdon powder site. As I have a few pounds of Viht N135, which does have a similar burning rate to H4895, I wish to determine if a safe working load for use to 100 yds max can be made up.

Hence my request for info from you guys with a lot more experience/expertise of this calibre.

It's simply amazing how restrictive and left leaning the UK has become. It was a bastion of pride and purpose in WW2, and now look at it.
Shooting game should require use of expanding bullets for humane kills, so how do they excuse the fact that animals can suffer a lingering death using FMJ bullets.
We do feel your frustration.
N135 shows to be close to IMR4895 in burn rate, but it will not be as efficient with the light bullet as N133 or N130 would be.

Here's a link to Reloadersnest and several loads using VV powders. Look through it and see if you can interpolate a sensible load.

Perhaps if you email VV, they will offer a suggestion.

30-30 / Expanding Bullets

Hi NCsmitty
As you are very much aware we do have very restrictive laws in the Uk. Really upset me handing in my Colt Python when handguns were banned. It was as a result of the Dunblane incident that "expanding missiles" were banned. Knee jerk from politicians. Then it was pointed out that "expanding missiles", as they refer to expanding bullets, MUST be used when hunting live game/vermin. That is when the requirement of "good reason" to buy/possess "expanding missiles" became a necessary addition to a firearms certificate. So when applying for expanding ammunition/bullets to be added to a licence the holder must satisfy the police authority of his area that he has permission to shoot over land for live quarry. The certificate also specifies for each calibre the holder can buy/possess such ammunition/bullets. Every round bought is listed on the certificate up to the maximum stipulated by the police authority.

Tried the 110 fmj in 30-30 with H-322. Fed 30-30 case, Fed 210 primer, Hornady 110 fmj (30 carbine bullet), 2.490 COL, 33.0 grains h-322. 2400 fps from Win 16 in trapper, and excellent accuracy.
