30 carbine sabots

I own an AMT semi-auto pitol. I was thinking about reloading some 30 carbine rounds with 224 bullets using plastic sabots but I've heard this is a bad idea in a short barreled automatic weapon. I would very much appreciate any input. I have done this with the Ruger revolver in 30 cal. It works but is not very accurate.
