I am just getting into .300 Blackout.
Looking to find the "best" subsonic/cast bullet mold for the .300 and some data.
I know to use my manuals but like all of us I like to compare books and recipes.

Whats your favorite .300 Blackout/Cast Projectile?
What about jacketed bullets?
What about Supersonic loads?
What about Subsonics loads?

I hear the Barnes 110gr is some of the best. I used the 180gr Barnes Blue Tip all copper to bag my first deer this past. November. Big fan of the ammo.

I have a 5" and a 10" both intended to run both supers and subs.

What length do you run and is it a consideration when reloading .300 Blackout?

1) Yes, barrel length is a consideration when reloading. The longer the barrel the faster & more pressure are the difference. 2) I load a lot of 300Blkout, I love the 200 & 212 gr ELDX bullets, but I’m sure any bullet in that weight range would be functional. 3) I have loaded both sub & supersonic loads for the same firearm, mine is a 10” and my gas is just right to function, ejecting & picking up the next bullet.

You don’t mention the powders that you use, that would help to identify a load range if available.

Good Luck
Dan

300 AAC Blackout is used primarily as a suppressed subsonic gun for me. I have three 300 BO uppers at the moment, 16-inch, 9-inch, 5-inch.

Above are my two favorite and most used loads/bullets.

Left: Maker REX 220gr all copper bullet, designed to expand at subsonic velocities and it works as advertised. Pushed with Accurate 1680.

Right: Berry's Spire Point 220gr plated lead. Cheap, clean, and a great plinking load. Pushed with IMR 4227. One of the quietist loads I have run through my suppressor AR and still reliably cycles.

You mixed up your rights and lefts from what I can see.

I also use the Berry's 220gr and 4227. It is stupid quiet out of a bolt gun. I stopped using cast bullets for the most part for Blackout because the bullets kept getting mangled on my AR feed ramps.

All my guns have 16 inch barrels but I have looked at shorter setups on and off.

I can't speak to supersonic deer hunting, mine are all primarily shot suppressed with some super plinking. I have a couple of ARs in it, 7.5 and a 10. Also a Scout single shot with 16 inch barrel. Had a CZ 527 but that was the biggest piece of junk rifle I ever owned, and after messing with it for a year under the warranty with 3 trips back to CZ, I finally took a full refund and gave up.

I used to be heavily into RL 7 for subsonics. I now use Shooter's World SBR SOCOM, which may be the perfect 300 Blackout powder. I've also got some Shooter's World Blackout on hand, which is supposed to be very very close to the SBR, but I haven't tried it yet. I use the Berry's 220 plated and the Gallant BT 217 coated cast for general plinking. I've used both the Maker's and Lehigh 220 all copper and they work well. The Gallant coated cast are probably the cheapest subsonic plinking option out there for 300 BLK, but the Berry's are more accurate and consistent for sure.

Barrel length is huge. I generally load to the 10 inch AR. Full function subsonic in the 10 inch with and without the can, ***usually*** results in a subsonic load in the 7.5 that won't last round lock without the can. You can achieve a little more variance with adjustable gas blocks on the ARs. If you have a single shot rifle, you'll likely have to load for it separately to keep it sub.

For super plinking, I pretty much stick to standard 150 FMJ. I've got one of the big bulk cases of Hornady's I'm working through. I use the same bullet for Garand loads;-)

I tried a number of loads in the 300 blk that just didn’t give me any results I wanted. The 110gn Barns TAC Tx moving around 2000 fps @ 50 yards changed my opinion of the round and has proven useful to me. If a pig isn’t in the spot they were shot in, they were already running when hit, is what I have come to expect from that bullet. The other stuff I tried didn’t perform the same.

For subs my 458 socom is a much better round for hunting, my 45 ACP carbines can throw 230 grains of cast bullets subsonic with a lot less powder.

I did dabble with cast and coated 150’s for awhile but they were not anymore useful than 147’s out of a 9mm.

Good catch, little dyslexia on my part this morning, I fixed the post.

I have a 10.5" barrel carbine and shoot the 220 grain plated Berrys bullets. Shooting supersonic is a piece of cake. Finding a powder that will produce small velocity spreads is the challenge. I'm still looking! Many powders just don't burn consistently at low pressure.

I loaded subsonic 147 grain 9mm and had extreme spreads of 10fps or less with 5 shots. With the 300BO it was close to 40. If someone has a magic powder that is quiet and consistent... I'm all ears! H110 was one of the worst. 4227 had the spread of 40fps, which is kind of meh.

Good Luck!

Shooter's World SBR Socom Sir!

In my 16" 1:7 barrel with pistol gas...
Supersonic:
125 grain Speer TNT was most accurate loaded near the top of H110. I'm looking forward to testing AA1680 with some 147 grain bullets, and comparing the two loads.

Subsonic (not suppressed - Illinois frowns on quiet firearms):
Hoosier Bullets 215 grain FP (coated lead) went supersonic at 10.9 grains of AA1680. 10.6 grains kept it subsonic, and allowed the gun to function. I haven't spent a lot of time toying with gas block adjustment, so there may be some more room there. Since I can't own a suppressor in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, I haven't spent much time toying with subsonic loads.

I've had decent results using Reloder 7 with MBCs 245 gr. BO bullet.

These are out of an 8 1/2" barrel.

Thank you all for your contributions. Until I notes alongside my manuals and appreciate the contributions made by everyone. I want to get my hands on the Barnes 110 and the Sub-X rounds.

If you love the 110 then the hamr would be the better cartridge... the value in the 300bo is cast bullets in the 180-220 range suppressed.
