I just got a .300 black out pistol and thinking about what I wanted to load for it. I see why a lot of folks like these things. I got a bunch of AP's but don't know if subsonic loading would be worth the effort. No intent of use other than seeing what a 10.5" barrel with 1:8 twist might do with AP's to some junk around the house. The AP's are 125gr. I think I'll need a pretty fast powder. Thoughts?

H110 and a 125 grn is great. I use tnt hp or hornady sst. Makes for accurate ammo. I also shoot it out of a pistol.

That AP bullet is longer(reduced case capacity & increased bearing surface/pressure) so do not use standard 125gr jacketed lead data.

That bullet has no hope of doing anything special at subsonic speeds. Even at supersonic, I'm not real sure the approx 2,000fps you might get with that bullet will be cutting clean holes through 1" thick steel. Speed is what defeats hard targets.

Also, our friends at down at our favorite store(ATF) says AP pistol ammunition is a no no.

I think people pay a pretty penny for those. I'd look into selling them to buy some fmj pills.

^^^Thx. Yeah, probably just not worth the time, product or potential hassle. I do have a nice AR10. That might be a lot more fun.

Most AP bullets for .308 caliber are either about 150 grains or the M2 AP's are about 163 grains. Haven't seen any 125's. Caution loading them in pistols as rules indicate they are illegal in pistols. The ATF rules are vague and a New York attorney couldn't figure them out. Not illegal to load them for rifles but even if you own a .308 caliber pistol you could be in violation?? Don't want to start arguments on the regulations. Need to check your own state regs for shooting AP's. It would be a waste shooting them subsonic or even super in a Blackout. They do need velocity to work as designed. You have your pistol length .308 and have loaded AP's in your possession and I believe you'll be arrested, your firearms confiscated (maybe all of them}, and deep trouble with the FED's. Just a warning that I believe to be accurate?

Time to hijack my post a bit. I know green tip .223 are not true ap's. Anyone care to mention something about shooting these in a AR pistol?
