300 Savage Reload Questions

I have some IMR 3031 powder and some 165 gr powder coated cast bullets.
The bullets are .309 and were purchased primarily for loading 30-30 Win.
Is there a safe load for low recoil target shooting with this combination?
The bullets do not have gas checks.
I was thinking of trying around 27 gr to start with.

I'm sure that someone has one of the early or even a new Lyman manual with cast data listed that hopefully will help out.

I would look it up but unfortunately I'm about 3hrs away from my collection.

According to the Lyman #48 for one of the cast bullets, a 160 grainer, 27 grains of 3031 is the starting load and should get you near1600 fps. Wouldn't go higher than that unless you use gas checks.
