Hello All
I got a Savage FT/R rilfe this week and since I already load 308 for other rifles I have I got it in that caliber. Just want to see if anyone has a experance with this rifle. My Savage 12 Low Pro in 308 likes my current loads of Lupua Brass, 168 gr SMK, CCI primers and 44 gr a varget. Figured I would just start with that. Any advise is welsome.

Your load seems very similar to mine. Component-wise the only difference is I use 210's. I have noticed, however, a BIG difference when it comes to measuring the bullets' shank length (ie bearing surface).

I have found that the SMKs do MUCH better with the longest shank possible (usually more than .517") and I seat them to where the ogive-base length is 2.106". The problem is you have to measure each one as they come out of the box.

If you go to the "show off your tactical bolt guns" thread you can see some recent groups I obtained with this load out of my Remy 700. I'm sure you can get the same performance from your Savage.

Good luck with it!
