I just got 500 unfired LC 7.62 pulldown brass from Widener's, and some of the case mouths, besides being dented & requiring at least neck-sizing, have little "nibbles" from the collet, and will require trimming a little beyond 2.005. Anyone have any comments or suggestions on trimming to say, 2.00 or even 1.95 or so? I realize the shortening will lessen the bullet tension, but looking at the 5.56 an it's itty-bitty neck I can't imagine it would make a serious difference. They will be fired in my M14 with Armscorp receiver & all GI parts (SAK chrome lined bbl). Appreciate the inputs
Cheers,
George J.

It won't hurt a thing to trim to 1.95 or 2.00. Consistency is much more important than the exact length you trim them to. Anything reasonable will be fine.

Without seeing them?

It won't hurt a thing to size them, chamfer & debur them, load them, and shoot them either.

Worry about whether or not they need trimming too short after they are once-fired brass!!

Thats when you can measure them accurately after sizing again, and tell what you really need to do to them.

Depending on one's perspective and knowledge base, both Walkalong and rcmodel have perfectly valid comments. Were I to error, I'd error on rcmodel's side, but saying that, I've done exactly what Walkalong is suggesting with no ill effects other than I ended up tossing a few cases after firing that were just simply too short on my personal "too damn short" scale. :p

I have fired a lot of 223 that measured too short after firing, factory ammo not reloads most PMC will measure 1.955 or so and most LC is at or near maximum loa.
