Greetings,

I have been a longtime lurker and it seems the shooters here have always been helpful in assisting in reloading issues.

Here's my dilemma. I have some very accurate loads for my guns for 308 WIN with 178 ELDX/ M/ AMAX/ SST and Sierra/ Speer SPBT and Nosler Etips. Using 43.6 Varget, 44 WIN 748 and 42 TAC. None of these loads shoot more than 3/4 inch at 100 yards. I have not had any luck with flat based bullets in this weight range.

Share some of your successes with the above components and especially for the 180 grain corelokt. I have three additional rifle powders to try as well 4064, 3031 and VV N540.

Im shooting these from Savage, Remington and a single shot handi rifle. I usually load 2.810 or 2.820 but have to go down to 2.800 for Corelokt and Hornady Interloc based on ogive. I am not a target shooter and for the corelokt Im looking for an accurate load for shots 300 yards and under.

Welcome to THR and the reloading forum in particular. I use a 150 or165 grain bullet with my 308 ammo so I'll be little help, but a couple thoughts for you. I have always been impressed by the quality of the CoreLokt bullets for their cost. I use the 180 grainers in 300 Savage and 30-06. The recent problems with Remington have produced supply problems and I switched to Interlocks the last go. Have not had time to try them in the field on game yet but they are equally accurate it seems but load a bit differently. Hope Remington bullets come back in stock I will be a happy camper.

Thanks Frog! I shoot 155 Tipped Matchking in a souped up 16.5 inch 308 with 3031 and a 165 with 748 and TAC out of an 18.5 inch. I have had good luck in load development except for the 180 flat bases. In this resource constrained environment Im hoping some tips saves me on components.

I'm sorry, my .308 loading experience is pretty much 150-168gr. But hopefully I can help a little. Out of the powders you have to use, Varget and 4064 would be my first choices, then VVN540. In my experience I've noticed the flat base bullets like a little lower charge weight than ones with boat tails. That's about all I can give you, hope it helps!
