..actually "32 Colt Police Ctg", but what I am given to understand is the same thing. Arm in question is a 6" barrel Police Positive - anyone know how I can find out when it was made?
I presume that the cartridges you have are .32 Colt New Police – which are identical in all important respects to the .32 S&W Long, and both are interchangeable.
Both would be safe in a Colt Police Positive revolver that was in good shape. If you post a partial serial number (say it was 24560 post it as 245xx) someone will come up with a date. Also check out (www.proofhouse.com) for this kind of information. You should find the serial number stamped on the frame behind the crane (the hinge the cylinder swings out on) and you’ll have to open the cylinder out to see the number.
Do be sure you have a Police Positive, and not a Police Positive Special. This should be marked on the side of the barrel.
