Sounds good enough to get you home again, where ever 'here' is.

But what is this post about?

rc

What 2 or 3 calibers and blades
you have with you in this moment.

The ones that matter most.

ETA: As you'll see below, I'm collecting this information in a table form so we can compare calibers, etc.

Please list calibers explicitly (because one can't always tell from model number alone), even more important that model names and numbers (though the latter make it more interesting).

Right now, no guns and two knives: a Kershaw Scallion and a S&W S.O.R.T., both with serrated blades.

Away from home it's either 9mm or .40 caliber and a Kershaw Cryo. Today it's 9mm & the Kershaw. Gun on my right side, knife on my left.

When I fly to Florida in a few weeks for a quick visit using a carry on bag only it will have to be none, nada, zip.

The Usual

.22lr (S&W 317), a Case slimline trapper, Fisher Space Pen (tactical black LOL). Oh yeah, almost forgot... fingernail clippers by TRIM as well.

When I leave home I always have my S&W 38 airlight and Lionspy folder. In addition I also have waterproof matches and a small flashlight. Therefore, if my car breaks down in the middle of nowhere I can still shoot a cat at night, skin & clean it, and find something to burn so that I could cook it - assuming that I was hungry, of course.

I'll bite, assuming "here" is anyplace other than home.

Just out and about? 9mm Luger and .32ACP. Knife is an inexpensive S&W folder.

To and from my no-carry full-time job site? .32ACP and .25ACP, along with the S&W, which is permitted.

My one-night-per-week pizza delivery gig? .32ACP on me, and 9mm Luger in the truck, along with a bigger, fixed-blade S&W.

Recent road trip to NC? .22LR, .25ACP, .32ACP, 9mm Luger, and 20G.

At work so just the Benchmade and the Victornox, the LCP is in the car waiting to be dropped back in my pocket.

Since I'm at home right now, it's big list.........

But normally it's a TCP .380 and/or a 9mm Makarov along with a Remington pocketknife and a Benchmite on my keychain.

Interesting posts since I logged off last night. Thanks for sharing.

I decided to be purposefully vague in my OP about "here". I'll clarify more later what I mean by that.

But mainly, I was interested in leaving it vague to see what calibers and blades people would have handy in various locations that could be "here".

I'm curious to do a little data collection (and represent results in a pie chart at least -- if this thread generates enough interest and offers good numbers) to see what the statistical distribution of calibers (more so than blades) is. Are some significantly more common in our preference pattern, or are they more evenly spread. I'm guessing the former.

I'm home now as well. Out of the safe are two .357 revolvers, and three .22 pistols packed for tomorrow's range trip, therefore not loaded.

On my belt is always my NAA .22LR in it's folding holster. Within reach is my LCR9. In my pocket is a SOG folder.

Probably more deadly is this bowl of steaming hot chicken soup in front of me with extra chicken from Popeye's.

Kershaw Blur, Streamlight Stlylis Pro and a Custom Colt 1911 in .45 ACP carried in a Andrews Leather shoulder holster with two extra magazines.
I'm going on a date and packing light.

oooo... this is good data accumulating. Sample size looks very promising ...

I'd better get an early start on summarizing it in some sort of table (I don't have a spread sheet, and don't know how to use them, sadly.)

I'm open to multiple data sets if someone wants to try it their way. We can compare methods.

Best laugh of my day, so far. Thanks. ;)

Thoughts about a data set -- prelim ideas

I'm seeing a table with top row caliber (from .17 to .50).

In the row(s) below the heading is the data. A mention of .380 or .357 mag gets a single tick, but only one tick per caliber per post. (E.g., a second statement like, "I like my 9 for scenario Y, but for scenario X, . my .380 is my choice" doesn't get a second tick.)

A third row offers space for totals, and another below that for comments, notations, footnotes, etc.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'll work up a prototype after work.

Data table prototype

It was too hot in my office to work for the last hour -- and it's Saturday afternoon -- so I focused on this project, which just seems like more fun right now.

So, I put on some good rocking music in the headphones (which most would probably hate -- electronica),
and rough-drafted this prototype table -- something like this.

I know I'm missing calibers -- not all listed yet -- but I'll let the data dictate what's up there. Suggestions welcome.
