I'm thinking, too... .
Last year I got bored and started reloading all of my accumulation of 9mm and ,380 brass.
By the time that I was done I had about 70 pounds of loaded .380 rounds,,, and only two pocket guns in this caliber.

Maybe a .380 PCC might make sense, after all.

I cast my own bullets. 9mm is running me $0.047 each right now, or $4.70/100. 45 ACP isn't much more expensive than that.

Yeah that's how I am, 380 is the stock pile that just keeps growing.
Shoot 50 rounds at the range, pick up 250-300 brass.

Two of the ranges that I use are also used by the local Police of three towns, the Border Patrol, the Highway Patrol and a number of other folks.
Most of them never pick up their brass.
Sometimes I wish that they would because carpal tunnel syndrome is a thing - and that's why I have the huge stash of .380 and no long gun to use it up.

You have convinced me that you believe it is a great setup for coyotes.
It's actually quite terrible. I prefer one of my 12 gauge #2 lead turkey shell reloads or a 30-30.
Had been using suppressed 22lr.
Suppressed 380 should be better that 22lr, just as quiet I hope and sling lead that weighs 3x as much as 22lr and makes 9mm holes.

I passed tactical classes with Glock 42 and ETS magazines. Each one used up between 1,000 and 1,500 rounds. It will take at most 3 classes to burn up 70 pounds.

As the owner of a Ruger PC9 with the GLOCK mag insert I have no use for a .380 carbine, but one will fill a lot of the same roles for the OP that my PC9 does for me so I'm glad you bought one to try it out. I call the PC9 a 10/22 on steroids, I think the .380 Hi Point will be somewhat similar. Keep letting us know how it's all coming together, especially if you re-stock it. (Pics of your Hi Point and the soon-to-be-added silencer will be cool, too!)

Good luck!

Stay safe.

I got the quiet bore 9mm solvent trap it's very nice.
Definitely worth $300.
Nicer than an entry level $400+ silencer that you have to wait 10 or 11 months for.

I have a 9MM carbine that runs really well on FMJ reloads. I assume the 380 would also.If you reload that caliber now the carbine is a smart purchase.

The ATF allowed a open bolt semi auto for civilians without a Tax Stamp?
Yes for a long time. RPB, made them in .380, 9mm, and .45. The guy who later started Kel-Tec made one in 9mm. Couple people made a carbine in open bolt. All of them were told to stop due to how easy it was to illegally make them full auto of course.
The pistols like this were absolutely worthless. That bolt falling forward made the shooter pull back. I never saw anyone who could shoot one and come close to getting on paper with them. They were cheap and fun for a short time. When it looked like they were going to make them stop I bought a few as a just in case. Sure enough they did away with them and the price went through the roof. By the time I sold the last one I had I kind of felt guilty for the amount of cash the guy gave me but, hey he wanted it really bad. Open bolt worked fine in a gun you could shoulder but in an pistol held in the hand it was a joke.
Now once converted to full auto? They were a ton of damn fun if not rather expensive to play with :D

The secret sauce was to hold it by the (false) suppressor. It had a spring-loaded baffle inside, wihch as a side effect re-circulated outside air and kept the tube cool enough to touch. I agree that shooting by holding it at the pistol grip only was impossible.

That was why I had zero use for them. Several people made one. Now days with the Brace thing they would work fine but there was just no reason to fire open bolt. Unless you are going to turn them full auto it had no use. Other than maybe look cool? Of course a lot of people would turn them full auto only by just doing away with the disconnect which was why the Feds cut them off. The last couple I had that I hung onto only because price went insane, I felt kind of guilty what I sold them for. Figured what the hell the people who bought them "just had to have one" and wanted to pay that insane price so what the hell. For those who wanted to make a machine gun illegally there were other ways to go about that and I figured if you really wanted to play that stupid game and risk years in prison may as well do it with one that was select fire. To each his own I guess. I suspect a whole lot of people got caught with one they altered and by the time it was over with did not think it was quite as much fun as they imagined it would be. Whats the old line "Stupidity should be painful"? Sure a lot of the idiots who got caught found out it was painful :D
