I'm wondering if anybody had any experience with Makarov in.380 ACP
Not standard caliber, should it be any issue?

Shouldn't be any issues, .380 and 9mm Mak are close enough that guns like the CZ82 (9mm Mak) and CZ83 (.380) use the same magazines. Back in the day many places sold .380 barrels for the Makarov, although the pressed in barrel made the switch a lot more difficult than some people might have expected.

I've heard of one case where .380ACP was fired in a 9mm Mak gun as a "forensic countermeasure" seems it didn't work.

Loved mine chambered for 380 Auto.

My sister still has hers. Shoots great with soft recoil.

Wish I still had it.

Thank goodness for M&P Shield 9 to ease the pain of fun memories.

I wonder if any of those old barrel press/swap tools are still available?I have a few 9x18 Makarovs,as well as a P64..a while back I saw some aftermarket barrels for the P64 to shoot .380 and it got me thinking:Any .380 Makarov owners who want the ability to convert between both calibers interested in someone making a run of barrels&tools ? I don't have any .380's ,but the utility of a reliable convertible pistol can't be ignored.

It's not so much convertible. The barrels are literally press fit. And you have to grind the ramp. So it's one or the other. Once you push it in then out I would not trust it to be pressed in again.

No issues. In a (not entirely successful) attempt to limit my calibers, I have the IJ70A in .380acp along with the CZ83 among other .380's. The Makarov shoots fine.

I have a makarov (Bulgarian) that I swapped a .380 barrel onto. You won't have any problems with it (same mags and parts, etc).

Be careful with Gun Parts Warehouse. The press they sold me was improperly machined, and the threaded barrel's threads were not quite right (though it was correctable).

If anyone wants to suppress a makarov, they're fun but watch out for the increased backpressure leading to premature parts wear.

No. The .380 commercial Maks might lack the same fit and finish of the military ones, but they work the same which is darn reliable. They take normal 9x18 mags too which is a bonus. Buy with confidence.

No issues (common single-stack version). The perfect operation along with being easy to conceal explain why It's my only carry gun.

After buying my first two military Maks in 9x18 (EG & Bulgy), it seemed a good idea to have the less collectible .380 Russian, to avoid wear on these other superb handguns.
On any road trip, 9x18 ammo is easy to find, but .380 Auto is even more common.

If we ever see high tariffs on all imported ammo (or a high tariff/ban on Russian ammo: think it Can't happen?), .380 prices might not go up as much as 9x18 ammo prices.

I use my IJ70 that I paid $195 for a few years ago as a pocket carry backup gun. I've thrown it around in mud and sand and it just works. Only malfunctions I've had with it were due to JHPs catching on the feed ramp. Can't go wrong with a Makarov.

Hmmm, interesting discussion on this.

I have the doublestack 9x18 Makarov, commercial (of course). This takes both regular mak mags (they rattle around but stay in), and weirdly shaped doublestacks (although they are rare, the 10 rd promags are pricey, and the legit Russian 12 rd mags may cost more than the gun does). It's a fun shooter. For a hi-cap 9x18, I prefer my CZ 82, but you wouldn't go wrong with this either.

It's an interesting design, as a copy of the PPK it's quite a bit more of a departure than the P64 is. My .380 seems very reliable, though heavy for a .380.

The military 9x18 PM's are great, the Russian commercial are good, and there are knock offs so buyer beware.
