Quick and simple question to all the 3rd Gen Smith owners. What is the difference in grip dimensions between the .40 full size (4006, 4003, 4046, etc) compared to the .45 full size, specifically the 4" 4566/4563?

I ask because after wanting a 4006 for years I finally picked up a 4006TSW. But I find the grip with the plastic stocks to be flat and uncomfortable, and with the rubber Hogues it's way to thick. It's still very usable but I don't like how it feels so I'm selling it.

Problem is that I love the 3rd Gen Smiths and would love to find one that feels good in my hand so I'm wondering if the slightly larger .45 models might be more to my liking with the stock grips. Anybody out there have experience with the two pistols?

Yes, the arched backstrap one-piece grip will fit the 4006

Don't know how much they're going for, if you can find them, but I have an unused one I'd let go for $20 shipped.

Or you could try the Hogue rubber sleeve on what you have.

The 4500 series is longer, front to back, making it feel flatter than the 4000 series.

Thanks for the offer, David, but I've already decided to sell it. It's a nice pistol but it just isn't doing it for me.

I probably would have tried the curved backstrap grip before I bought the Hogue, but I couldn't find one anywhere.

I guess I'll just keep an eye out for a 45XX series at the next few gun shows and see if I can fondle one.
