.41 Mag Association

41 and 44
I have 6 1/2" NM Blackhawk Flat Tops in 44 and 41. I revisited my seldom used H110 loads in both during the same trip to the range. The 44 was scary for me and I didn't control the gun very well, while the 41, for me anyway, seemed quite at home with its comparable load. I loaded 50 more of the 41s and will save the 44s for the Smith 629 with better grips.

I trust that those loads are compatible with a S&W......

Ive always wanted one, just waiting for one to find me. Its a missing gap in my magnum revolver collection. What are the heaviest common hardcasts made for this round that i dont need to cast myself?

As said, 265s are available from several different commercial casters. The problem becomes that often the front sight, especially on S&Ws, isn't tall enough so the gun ends up printing rounds several inches above the sight picture even with the rear blade all the way down.

My favorite commercial "heavy" is the Cast Performance 255 gas check. It is a LBT designed bullet that only CP has the mold for. My load runs 22.0 grains of H110 which seats the bullet right on top of the powder so there is no air space. I have run this round in Rugers, S&Ws and FA and in the Smiths the empties eject all six with no effort on the ejector rod. Velocity is in the mid-1300s depending on the gun. Start with 19.0 and work up...

What are you running for a gun?

Dont have one yet! But im in the market. They are kind of hard to come by in alaska. I dont really need one, but i like magnum revolvers and the .41 is a gap in my collection. Dont know much about .41s, but i load extensively for the .454 using h-110/w296. If i ever come across a gp100 im snatching it up. Also, anyone in ak with a .41? I have a friend trying to sell about 200 rounds of factory ammo, private message me if your interested and ill get more info.

Try Gun Broker for a .41 mag, it might run a little more to ship to Alaska. If the seller uses USPS it shouldn't be more than the lower 48.

Nice looking first reloading bench. It was smart, locating the shelf for the weight scale at eye level. There are others with .41 Mags close to us, though my son sold his in a weak moment. Cocolalla's just a bit south of Sandpoint by a few miles. Haven't really cared shooting jacketed, as I'm a caster. Lyman 410027 HBWC 203 grain & 410032 SWC PB 210 grain bullets fill my current needs. Recently picked up my .41 Mag, RBH with 6-1/2" barrel and paper targets has so far been the only game. Still assembling a few items for it...

Here they are in a group pic... my 1980'ish 4" model 57 next to my 1970'ish model 58... another Unobtanium List gun checked off!!!

Thanks for the photo! They look just like the two I had way back when, only my Model 57 was also of '70s vintage like the Model 58. Sure do miss those two .41 Magnums!

I'm aware of that. Back in my younger days, my brother and I just about ruined his 6" model 57 hotrodding it, these days my Smiths get the 'softball' load... I save the big boomers for the Dan Wesson, however, I don't go over published data, I don't see any reason to.

Let us know how that turns out... I have the same problem with both my .45 Colt Vaquero and .44SPC Blackhawk. I've had the cylinders reamed, but I'm debating having the forcing cone on the .44 looked at.
Shooting the gun went fine. My IMR 4227 load is still a little dirty, so extraction is gummed up a bit still. I am confident in the gun now so will push the load closer to max where the powder is most efficient.

I've got one of the Davidson's stainless Blackhawk .41's coming, might get it tomorrow or might have to wait until next week. I opted for the 4 5/8" version, I always liked that size. I wasn't aware they had a run of stainless Blackhawks in .41 Mag.

Can anyone recommend a scope mount for my 1980's Model 57? It is not drilled and tapped by the factory so I'll need to have a gunsmith do that for me. I would like to provide the scope mount and have them mount it. I looked on the internet and see Weigand who also supplies matching scope rings as a package deal. Also EGW mounts are available from Brownells.
I really hate to mount a scope on my Model 57 after all these years but I'm having a hard time at 62 years old focusing on three planes to shoot this pistol accurately.

I have a sw model 57-2 I just bought. It’s the first .41 mag I’ve ever owned in my 75 years here. I ordered 500rds Percision 210 grain to check it out, very fine gun

I picked up the stainless Blackhawk the other day. I had a set of older (early 2000's) Lett grips laying around plus an extra Super Blackhawk hammer so I put those on. I installed the Wolff reduced springs in it and also installed the Hiviz fiber optic front sight. I haven't even got to shoot it yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks guys, yes I'm glad I held onto those grips over the years. The weight of the gun according to Davidson's is 46oz, but I don't have a scale to verify that.

Dirt Farmer...I have two of the 8 3/8" 57s...one with a scope and one without. The one with a scope has a Leupold base and rings with a 2-6 Bushnell scope. Whoever did the D&T really knew what they were doing as the didn't punch the holes in the topstrap all the way through.

At 65 I know what your vision is like... Up till 2014 mine was perfect...then got cataracts in both eyes... Now I can't use handgun or scout scopes any more because it is out of focus...

SGD...NICE Ruger and mods...
