.41 Mag Association

RKRCPA...I do not think that is correct. The original 50's vintage .357 Flat Top is the same as the as the NM Flat Top and New Vaquero. The Vaquero, Old Model, Old Model Super Blackhawk, New Model and New Model Super Blackhawk all share the same frame. There is also the original .44 Magnum Flat Top that is the same as the New Model .44 Magnum and limited edition .41 Magnum Flat Top.

It is my understanding that all Old Model 357's are on the mid sized frame. All other Old Models were built using the large frame.

The original 3-screw Flat Top came in two sizes... Mid-Frame .357 and Large-Frame .44 Magnum.

Then the Super Blackhawk 3-screw was introduced in .44 Magnum and then shortly thereafter the Flat Tops were both discontinued and all other caliber OMs were made on the same frame with a different aluminum grip frame instead of the steel "Dragoon" square back triggerguard.

The NM is just the OM with two screws and transfer bar... I do not believe there were two different size OMs... I had OMs in .357 and .41 and I believe both had the same size frame. It wasn't until the FT Mid-frame Commemorative came out did the smaller frame come back...

Count me in. I had a 6" M57 and then found a 4". Sold the 6" and regret it.
But I still have the 4", and it's not going anywhere. :)

I like Missouri Bullet's 215 gr SWC with 8 gr Green Dot (plinking loads) or 18 gr 296 (real loads).

.41 Mag is my second most carried and shot revolver cartridge, after .45 LC. If I could only have one, I honestly don't know which way I'd go.:)
ETA: subscribing.
I'm hooked on both. My .41 is an old style Ruger Blackhawk, Speer 220 gr half jacket, semi-wad, 18 gr. 2400 is insane accurate; then I went and bought an old style Ruger Blackhawk .45 LC 7-1/2" bbl; cast 300 gr semi-wad and gas check, H-110...another insanely accurate. I purchased an old style .44 mag Super Black to round them out and have never fired it...hooked on the .45. I like the old-style Blackhawks because you can clean up the trigger with no creep and Very Low trigger pull. I had a gunsmith, Ruger retired [only worked on Rugers] check them out, clean up the triggers and set the pull at 1 lb. - sweet & clean.

41rem...how fast are you trying to push that 250 from the Tracker?

Was surprised to get 1250 fps. Did a double take at my chronograph, the Starline case's just dropped out of the cylinder. I can pull all the data if your interested.

...yes please....

That must be a HANDFUL!!

I'm keeping most of my loads for the Trackers under 1100 for 200 grain bullets and up and under 1200 for under 200 grains...

I just sent off a mid sized 3 screw 357 of 1967 or 1968 to Andy Horvath to rebuild it into a 41 Special. Now the wait begins. And I can tell you that the 3 screw I sent was of a smaller frame than that of the New Model. I have both and the size difference is noticeable.

The Ruger In My avatar is a mid frame NM that Andy converted to 41 mag. You will be more than pleased when he is done.

Thanks...if you have one and say so I was incorrect.... A friend has a 3-screw .357 and I'll have to check it next time I see him...

Thanks again...Bob

No problem Bob. My name is Bob and my wife tells me I'm wrong all the time. The one I sent off was indeed smaller. Can't say they all were, only the one I have personal experience with. It was built in '68 I believe. I have a 3 screw 41 magnum built in 1970 and it is on the large frame. When I pulled my "new model" out of the safe, visually they are the same size. The bluing on the 3 screw is far and away better than the newer one and the only other difference is the 4 clicks.

I apparently was under the impression there was only one frame size after the BH was introduced... I had my friend check his gun and he says it is 1/4" smaller length wise than a NM he has...

A friend just sent a Colt New Frontier .357 Magnum to Andy to have it redone into a .41 Special...I'm thinking about doing the same...

While on GunBroker a few weeks ago, a Pawn Shop had a 657-4 PC Lew Horton Defensive Revolver. It had just been listed and had a fixed BuyNow price too low to pass up...

Just got out to shoot it and a 657 Combat Special yesterday....

..would not want to be shooting these with full bore 210 grain loads....

Bob
It looks a lot like the model 629's made by the Smith Performance Center.

Is it a 2" or 2.5" barrel?

Love that short barrel Smith 41 mag!

As much as I love the .41, I've never really been interested in the shorty revolvers. I know you can port them, and other stuff, but... just, no. It's odd, because as soon as you hit 4", they are the greatest thing since sliced bread... 2 of my 3 .41 pistols are 4", and I want to make the 3rd a 4", too ( ;) ... it's a Dan Wesson.) Not to say they aren't some very nice revolvers, that's for sure. The Lew Horton 3" .41 some years ago sure tempted me...

100% agree with you Charlie...given the choice between a 3" 657 and 4" I'll take the 4" every time... Just balances much better...
