I am interested in obtaining a 44 mag TC rifle, for fun and to be used as a 100 yard deer and hog rifle. Does anyone have experience with this setup? I have other rifles and reload quite a few rifle and handgun calibers, including the 44 mag, which has been very effective from my 10 inch Dan Wesson silhouette revolver. It seems to me that from a 21 or 23 inch rifle, the 44 would be a good thumper. Your opinions please.

I've messed around with both a 16" 44Mag T/C Contender, and a 16" 45/70 Contender, and both were pretty awesome.

The Contender makes for a really compact, lightweight "stalking rifle".

Do you already have a Contender (now called a "G2") or an Encore? If you're trying to decide which one, I'd go with the smaller Contender/G2 since you're a handloader.

The Encore has a heavier frame can take a wider variety of high-pressure factory cartridges. But given that the Contender has numerous wildcat chamberings that are capable or taking down an elephant (and have), I see no reason for a handloader to take on the extra bulk of the Encore frame.

Yes, I already have a G2 contender and several 14 inch barrels in various calibers. I don't have a rifle stock yet.

i have a tc setup with a 16 1/4" bbl and rifle stock. i have not shot any game yet, but it makes an excelent "handy" heavy cover rifle and i'm confident with it for deer and hogs out to 75 yards, 100 with a good rest would not be out of the question as it groups inside 4" from the bench at that range. be aware that it is light and packs "some" kick but no more than most .30 cal deer rifles.

A red dot sight should help make a quick shot. I thought that one might beat a four inch group, do you reload?

yes i reload but mostly for my revolvers, shoot mostly factory loads though the TC. the little gun does buck a bit especially off the bench, could probably better 4" with pracice and or reloads, but the places i carry this gun 60 yards would be a long shot, it is really thick in east texas. 4" at 100 yards is minute of deer accuracy.
