I have had good luck with HS-6 powder and 240 gr. bullet. I have acheived almost the same velocity with a max load of HS-6 as I get with a max load of H110. My revolver is a Ruger Redhawk with a 5.5" barrel. I have tested min. to max loads of HS-6 with a velocity range from 1019 fps to 1317fps. A max load of H110 gave me about 1350 fps. These are book loads. My favorite lighter load is 9.5 Universal. I also load for a 44 mag lever gun and that load is near max H110.
