.444. Marlin hot load

Back a couple years ago , sierra hot line gave me a load of 46.3 Grs. of IMR 4198 . I have not shot this load yet . Is this took hot with a 265 Gr. Hornady Bullet ?

It's 1.8 over MAX with a 265 XTP according to Lyman #49.
It's also 3.5 over MAX according to Hornady #6 manual.

Maybe O.K. with Sierra bullets.
But XTP's are not Sierra bullets.

444 Marlin Load

I would be careful if that load is listed in 2 different manuals as 1.8 grns over or more i ALWAYS GO BY THE LISTED LOADS IN THE MANUALS

it's not worth blowing up your gun for an extra 50fps. stick with a listed load. it's not like 444 needs any help. (stupid overpowered shoulder hurting 444 grumble grumble......)

This is the kind of stuff that gets reloaders hurt, or destroys a nice piece. I too have had my day of reloading well beyond published data, but one thing I have never done is jump into them without at least doing a partial work up. I honestly don't have a problem running over charged loads, I just don't jump right into them blind folded.

Hornady 4th Edition states MAX of 42.7 grains IMR4198 with the 265gr FP (#4300)
