I've ordered some bullets, and would like to use some HS-6 powder but can't seem to find load data. The only thing I've found that comes close is 180 gr. LFP.
So has any one got a low/high start load for this. Wanting to be around 850 to 900 FPS in my .45 ACP. Thanks :)Gene

Very accurate!
For Bullseye Velocity

When it comes to cast bullets, a 180 is a 185 if it is the same shape.
You can get more weight variation then that just by changing lead alloy mixtures in mid- casting session.
So use 185 data.

For Bullseye Velocity you could do a lot better then HS-6 powder though.

It is a fine powder for full pressure high-performance .45 ACP loads.
Not so much for cast bullets at low velocity.

I'd suggest Bullseye, WW-231, Titegroup, or something along those lines in burn rate.
If nothing else, you could be using 4.5 grains Bullseye instead of 8.5 grains HS-6, which will save you some money on powder. And you will get much better consistency with cleaner burning.

If you don't like the results you get with BE give W231/HP-38 a try. I use almost nothing else for the .45 Auto, especially with lead bullets.

HS-6 is a great powder in the .45ACP. I use 7 grains of HS-6 under a 200 LSWC. The accuracy is better than average, and it's recoil is soft enough that you can shoot it all day long. It's very clean burning too. The range officer couldn't believe I'd shot over 300 rounds one afternoon because the outside of my 1911 looked so clean.

Check the Hodgdon web site for loads, although I find their load data a bit hot for my tastes. The newest Lyman manual also has an extensive .45ACP listing.

I went back out this morning and tested some new loads that were suggested with "15 mph winds" @29 deg. Using a SA GI 5" 45ACP with new Kart barrel I put in. Worked up loads from low to what I listed here. :) Gene
I used a Chrony [5 shot average] and shooting sticks @ 15 yards all loads shot under 3" . Missouri 185gr.#12 BH button , and 200gr. #12BH- LRNFP.

Missouri Bullet Company Button .45 185gr W231

I worked up some loads with the Missouri Bullet Company's Button .45 using for the very first time W231.

See photographs attached.

I think the groups might be better if the shooter was any good.

Sorry I forgot to write units of measure for the charge in the photo, they are "grains."

The charge with avg velocity of 702 fps barely cycled the gun. If I didn't hold still enough, I'd get a stovepipe or some other partial ejection.

The charge with 775 fps avg worked the slide without fail.

There wasn't any noticeable smoke in these loads with W231, which is nice on the eyes, nose, and mouth.

i have had great accuracy results with both WIN 231 and tite group but the tite group seems to burn much cleaner

For the .45, I strongly recommend Clays. It is a very clean powder and takes about half as much as other loads. It is outstanding on the .45.

I agree with rcmodel on this one. HS6 is better suited for maximum velocity with a jacketed bullet. I use it for 9mm and .40 cal in my jacketed S.D. loads with great results.
