I am needing data for the 200 grain rnfp bullets. I was using pb for these but I am wanting to try some red dot that I have. i can't find these in any of my manuals. and there are 200 gr swc and the oal and charge varies a lot so i don't know what i should equate my rnfp bullets to????

i was using 5.7 grains of pb with the bullets seated to the groove which worked well for me. but i wanted to try something different.

I was thinking something about 5 gr would be good for target but i don't know what max would be. Can anyone look in their manuals and see if there is a load for these bullets, or if you have something that works well for you?? i was wanting to make some target loads and then a few more around max just for home defense also.

thanks guys

Lyman's has two loads for 200 gr, not RNFP mind you, but with Red Dot they are 4.0 - 5.3 and 4.4 - 5.5. I don't know if that helps at all.

You might try looking up 200gr truncated cone. In .45 acp that's probably as close as you're gonna get in most manual's.

I use the Cowboy #4 in this bullet with HP38.
IIRC I used a 200gn RN as a starting point. Somewhat the same profile, but shorter length bullet than RN.

I have burned a ton of Red Dot under 200 gr. .45 bullets. 4.0 to 5.0 will get you a workable load. I would stay under 5.3 gr.. Just use data for 200 gr. SWC loads. Red Dot gets dirty at lower pressure loads so you will see a lot of blowback on the outside of the case. Bump the load up until the blowback almost stops. For lighter 200 gr. load Winchester Super Target is the cleanest powder I have tried. Bullseye is an standard powder for .45 ACP. About 4.2 to 4.5 is a tackdriver in most of my guns.

4.5 Grains of Red Dot is a good target load for me in 200 gr lswc & lead flat point rn. Mine are a little dirty but my Red Dot is old Hercules not the new cleaner Alliant. Titegroup is
also good and a bit cleaner, but I have a lot of Red Dot so I use that.
