I've had a .45 Colt New Model Blackhawk for a few years. It was purchased to essentially replace the 7.5" .45 Colt New Vaquero that I regrettably let go several years prior. I've been happy with the Blackhawk, but the thick grips and the larger grip frame of the Blackhawks has never been my cup of tea. I greatly prefer the New Vaquero or SAA-sized grip frames. I've just never been quite bothered enough with it to mess with buying custom grips.

I recently picked up a New Model Single-Six, which uses the same grip frame size as the Blackhawks and Wranglers. I was expecting the Single-Six to have the same beefy stock wood grips as the Blackhawk, but was pleasantly surprised to find them a very comfortable thin grip -- much like the stock grips on my 4 5/8" New Vaquero, which I really like.

After putting a few hundred rounds through the Single-Six, I instantly decided it was a keeper. But then... it hit me. What if I moved these outstanding grips to my Blackhawk?

And so I did. And now the Blackhawk feels like the gun I always wanted it to be. Much lighter in the hand, and quicker on target. Super happy with this change, to the point that I don't feel nearly as bad about letting that 7.5" New Vaquero go.

I've moved the bigger Blackhawk grips over to the Single-Six for now. I may leave them be, or I may seek out a new pair of grips like these ones.

Like you I prefer a slimmer grip. I put Eagle Gunfighter grips on my flatop Blackhawk .45 Colt and my wife's single six. A much better fit and feel for us.

Altamont seems to be having problems making anything that isn't some sort of finger grooved or rubber mutant monstrosity.
I just bought these less than a week ago.

Interesting. I have been trying to buy some silver/black laminate "Classic Panel" Magna style K-frame RB and J-frame RB grips for almost two years and everytime I look they are unavailable.
Check out Altamont’s online auction at GoneBroker. That’s where I got several sets over the last few years.

My early '80s 4.6" barrel Single Six came with the rather meaty flared bottom grip panels. Love 'em with that barrel length.

My 2010s 9.5" barrel Single Six came with thin polymer grip panels. Hated 'em with that barrel length, ended up with oversize Herretts.
