450 Bushmaster magazines

My best 450 BM magazines are home made. Started with a good straight 20rd 556 magazine. Replace the follower with a 458 SOCOM follower from CAlegalmags.com. Resulting mags holds 7rds and feeds flawless. No matter what magazine you use it's a good idea to make sure you de-burr and polish the edges of the feed lips smooth. The center feed of the big bore cartridges makes them sensitive to sharp feed lips.

Duramag (formerly C-Products IIRC) is making a dedicated 450 Bushmaster magazine. I have no personal experience with these new mags but I have heard good things so far. Currently they are only making a 5 rd version but promise larger capacity in the future.

The pictures on their website sure look like the factory 450 Bushmaster magazines I already have.

Sage advice, worth repeating. Until somebody makes a magazine with proper single-stack feed lips instead of stuffing a different follower into a 5.56-style double stack mag body, this is gonna be imperative.

I’ve done 4, and they run 100% in both my 450’s. 5.56 followers work great, and don’t require replacement. Lancer mags also have steel feed lips. They’re a couple bucks more than P Mags, but worth it IMHO.

I do the same cut to the front of my conversion too 303 hunter. Keep the brass from getting scratched up as much when loading the magazines.

I tried converting a 10rd PMAG (its easy to remove the front rib in the short magazine body) to become a 450 Bushmaster magazine. It works, holds four rounds, but the magazine is not stiff enough and the feed-lips spreads when loaded making it hard to insert and it will not drop free until empty.

Left to Right: Converted PMAG (4rd), Odd balls (5rd)*, Converted NHMTG 20rd (7rd), Bushmaster Factory Magazines (5rd).

*buddy gave them to me. They have DPMS floor plates and machined Delrin followers. Do to how short they are I really like them for hunting.

I’ve also tried P Mags with the same results as you. Also tried ASC stainless, but the lips are wide requiring quite a bit of bending to make them work. Lancer 10 round mags hold 4 rounds of 450, I use those for hunting.

I used regular Colt 20 round mags with mine, worked fine. Might see if an in modified mag works before you modify.
