If you can handle 308 recoil, you can handle 20 ga recoil from the right gun. It needs to be on the heavier end of the spectrum, preferably a gas operated semi-auto and with lighter shells. Certainly doable.

If anyone has experience drilling out a shotgun buttstock and pouring in molten lead, it might be useful information for the OP. Supposedly this method reduces recoil; I saw this on an old shotty once but have never done it, or viewed "before & after" test results.

Trap shooters used to do it all the time; put heat resistant spacer over the screw or bolt head, or you will never get it off again.
