Any thoughts on putting a .475 linebaugh through a ruger superblackhawk chambered in .480 Ruger?

Hi,
I don't think the .475 will fit in a cylinder bored for .480.
It is slightly longer than the .480
However, The 480 Ruger will fit and shoot in the .475

Yes!
It won't fit, but if it did, the gun would very likely blow up.
The six shot .480 Ruger is loaded to 48,000 PSI.
The five shot .475 is loaded to 55,000 PSI.

Linebaugh used specially heat treated custom five-shot cylinders on the Blackhawks he developed the cartridge in.

No it will not work, but where did you get the 480 Blackhawk? It must be a custom.

I have a Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger, but never seen a Super Blackhawk in 480.

I know of a few guys that had there Super Redhawk 480 rechambered to the 475 Linebaugh, and they are shooting them with no problems.

I am also having a Super Blackhawk built in 475 Linebaugh, it will have a new barrel and 5 shot cylinder.

Good catch...I meant redhawk (there was a good deal on one and I am concerned about availability of ammo since the gun was discontinued). Looks like a replacement cylinder is the only mod? The pressure shouldn't be too bad for a super redhawk frame.

Frames are not the weak spot in revolvers.

The cylinder is the weakest link in the chain.

Like I said, there are a few guys that did the 6 shot cylinder modifications to the 475 Linebaugh, myself I would not do it. I would have a new 5 shot cylinder made for it if you go to a 475 Linebaugh.

But to tell you the truth, the 480 in itself is a great round, the only thing you gain going to the 475 Linebaugh is a little more velocity and more recoil.

As far as the ammo, it is still out there and reloading supplies is out there also.

For the handgun hunter, I think and this is my opinion only, but the 480 Ruger is a much better choice for hunting over the 44 Mag or the 454 Casull.

I think handgun hunters don't know the full potential of the 480 Ruger, and I think Ruger is dumb for dropping it.

Don't ever put a round of ammunition in a weapon that's not chambered for it. The results will be "unpredictable" at best.

I once had a guy try to tell me that he his Lee Enfield jungle carbine was a 30-30. When I asked him how he figured that he said "well, .303 or 30-30 - those are both 303 thousandths of an inch, right?"

Monster Zero, the 475 Linebaugh will not go into a 480 Ruger chambering, it is to long. The only way it will fit is the gun has to be rechambered to 47 Linebaugh.
The 480 Ruger is actually a shorted 475 Linebaugh.
I know, I own both, the 475 Linebaugh will shoot the 480 Ruger, but not the other way in a 480 Chambering.
