I wear my 5.11 Tactical Pants and Shorts almost all the time, and now I see they have come out with a new line of 5.11 Tactical BOOTS.

Anyone own a pair of the 5.11 Tactical Boots, and what do you think about them?

Is it really time to "trade in" my Oakley Assault Boots for the 5.11 Tactical Boots?

:neener: :D :neener:

I got a pair of the 5.11 HRT boots a few weeks ago. They've replaced my Danner Acadias.

My goodness, these things are ridiculously comfortable. My wide/flat/problem feet had none of the problems that I have with basically any other shoe/boot. They're waterproof so that if you walk in a puddle up to the ankle your feet won't get wet. They're very well constructed with some neat features.

They have a reinforced kevlarish area on the inside heel so they won't rub together and jeapordize the integrity of the leather. The non scuff toe is also really nice.

In May, though, they're coming out with a waterproof version of the side zip boot for $10 less than the HRT boot. That may be something to think about as the only drawback to the HRT boot is that they're slightly tough to get on and off. I don't think the new ones coming out have many of the same features as the HRT boots, but the toe IS polishable on the new ones.

ymmv.

cool. i was wondering if they were waterproof. are the new ones also waterproof? the website is not that clear.

i was going to get the oakley, but then i found out they are not waterproof. why would you buy non-waterproof boots?

Waterproof? Well, my OS boots aren't wp and I've never had a problem with wet feet, though I walk in all sorts of weather. If you're going to be out in the woods in the early morn, or stomping through puddles, I could see the need.

As to the 5.11 gear, I'm a bit skeptical. I'll give them a try if I ever find them in a store around here, but I get the impression 5.11 is mostly hype. My one pair of pants faded so quick it wasn't even funny, and the sizes vary a good bit.

Aren't they made in China?

The new side zips that are coming out in may are supposed to be waterproof. Maybe if you live in a less moist climate I could see getting non waterproof boots, but I live in Seattle, so waterproof is a must.

I thought they were hype as well, until I tried them on. These things are just awesome. I'm on my feet for a good 12 hours a day and my feet aren't even sore at the end.

I'm not sure if they're made in china. it's a definate possibility though.

I have a pair of the A.T.A.C 8" side zip boot. Most comfortable boot I've ever owned.

i have two pairs, one of the lowtop boots for everyday wear (in fact i am wearing them now) and the 8" SRT waterproof boot for acting like im tactical. :)

both are very comfortable and appear as well built as my Danners. 5.11 has a 30 day money back guarantee. wear them for 30 days and if they aren't 100% right bring them back where you purchased them from and you 5.11 will credit their account and they'll give you your money back on the spot.

ive had mine for 30 days about and i have no intention of returning them. great boots if you ask me. i've tried Rocky, Danner, HiTec, and these and I like these the best.

i haven't tried Oakley or the Adidas GSG-9's, but these are like 1/2 the price.

The ATAC seem to be $80 for the 8" and $70 for the 6"
What I want to know is how I can try them on or size them before buying.
Good boots are hard to come by.

Thanks, Ruger.

I've been pawing around, and it looks like that's the place...

Sawdust

Thanks for the feedback.

Next time I need a pair of boots, I think I'll try the 5.11 brand.

:what: :scrutiny: :what:

They've been making guns for longer than anybody else too, but I don't see you switching from your Italian and German pistols...

That's only because you can't get them with carbon fiber.

One pair of my 5.11 pants says "Made in Cambodia". The other says "Made in Vietnam". My Polo shirt says "Made in Indonesia".

I know some nice things to come from Cambodia and Indonesia. And some very, very nice things to come from Vietnam....

Tactical Polo Shirt Colors

In an effort to brighten up my wardrobe, I ordered a 5.11 Tactical Polo in Navy. Well it came in a few days later and when I opened the box I thought that someone had made an error. This looked like a black polo shirt. I even had the resident expert of the house look and she said "That's black.". So I called Brigade Quartermasters, not so much to complain but to advise them that the shirt was erroneously tagged as "Navy". The lady who answered told me that it was not an error, but many people make the same mistake. She said the black and navy are very close. She offered to excahnge it but I declined since I had it and I still liked it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone tried 5.11's Tactical Blue Polo shirt? It's difficult to tell just what shade of blue it is by the catalog. Or are we doomed to black shirts similar to Henry Ford's color edict.
