I am trying to assemble components to start loading .500 S&W. I see on several sites, such as Midway, that there are .50 caliber bullets (.500 diameter) and .500 S&W bullets (also .500 diameter). Are they actually different, or can they be used as the same, all other factors being equal (grain, shape, etc.)?

Thanks in advance,

You can use any of the 0.50 caliber bullets.

For what it's worth, in an Encore I got the best accuracy (1 to 1.5 inch 3 shot 100 yard groups) with H110/Win. 296 and Sierra 400 gr. Sportsmaster bullets.

I suspect the 500 S&W bullets have cannelures. You'll want those if you are shooting them in a revolver. Probably doesn't matter for something like an Encore or an H&R single shot rifle.
