This is only one of a bunch of videos I have been taking of the progress of a handgun build I am doing. I uploaded it to youtube for novelty reasons. Sharing it here for the same reason; something fun to talk about.

As mentioned in the description, the problem with the bullets tilting downwards was fixed since the video was taken. Mag tube just needed to be bent inward a little at the front.

The ammo capacity is not as much greater in double column compared to single column due to the size of the cartridges. Generally, on normal magazine length, you'll be able to get 6-7 rounds in to a .50AE handgun in a single column magazine. Being that we are talking about half inch bullets, one extra round alone is an accomplishment, and we're looking at 10 rounds once the final magazine adaptation is complete. The magazine is the same basic width as the Para Ordnance P-14 magazines and a little taller then Desert Eagle mags.

The gun it goes to is a recoil operated handgun that is almost 2 inches shorter then the Desert Eagle and as much as a pound lighter. Mechanically, it is very close to the Beretta M-9 but it has a bunch of additional bells and whistles and the trigger it's self, even though double-action, is closer to that on the 1911A1. Though the handle is not yet complete, it looks very promising that it'll be the same width (side to side) as the Desert Eagle handle but just a little shorter (front to back. The small handle size despite the larger magazine is due to the mainspring being in an "out of the way" location, thinner metal on the handle (comparable to that on the Makarov) and thinner grips.

Just a 122mb video. I have to go out of town today but maybe tomorrow I can produce some new footage.

I'm impressed! Do I understand correctly that you are designing your own pistol? A one off designed automatic pistol is extremely rarely done.

Interesting project. Please update on progress (preferably with photos, I'm interested in how it looks).

With the need for adjustments and occasional changes, I already designed the pistol and spent a few years designing it. Part of the reason it's rarely pulled off is because there is a big difference between duplicating an already designed pistol and building one of your own design. All kinds of things to think about and consider. Making all of the parts work is one of the smallest parts of the process. Then it's making sure everything handles everything OK.
This particular gun was designed in .44 Magnum, .45 Win Mag and .50AE. I'd like to do all 3 calibers but I don't know if I have enough ambition left in me to do it. I have already started on the .44 Magnum (uses Desert Eagle magazines) so I might as well finish it. Plus, the .44 Magnum is a much easier design to work with then the .50AE and will be even easier once the .50AE has been finished, tested and all the bugs worked out. The .44 Magnum is also a perfectly normal size handgun (about the size of a 1911A1 and just a little heavier) while the .50AE is about the same front to back, but much bulkier. The action on both is basically the same as on the Beretta 92 except that the area in the frame where the trigger is housed in the Beretta 92 is filled with an inertia spring that both the slide and barrel make contact with.
BTW.
While writing this post, I received a call from harbor freight telling me that I can come get a replacement for my mill that died, so now I can work allot faster. I'll probably go straight from dropping the mill off to a meeting out of town and won't be back until late tonight, so I will try and take some new photos on Monday or Tuesday.
