Let me tell you about the family situation.
It sucks. Utterly.
Most are at least not saying anything or even being supportive, my brother says he has been thinking of going in a couple more years but some have just been difficult. Major guilt trips about our son not knowing them, etc.
We are trying to get the house prepped to show - we got a little crazy with some paint and had all kinds of "test areas", etc that we had to fix back to normal.
Houses on my street are selling in under a week (4 homes in the past month). Most of them, they first looker made them a full offer. Who pays almost $300k for a 1400-1600 sf house? Crazy crazy crazy - but buy mine before you wake up.
After we sell, I will drive one car to SA, fly back, drive the other car and get our stuff sent on a truck and my wife will fly down a few days later with the baby.
California Unemployment benefits are still payable if you leave the state and we figure we can get an apartment and live off the unemployment until I find a job 0 then buy a house.
I have sympathy if you have family that need you here. I had to ultimately prioritize the needs of my son - in TX, we can own a home, have a yard, afford college, etc - in CA, we can scrape by in a cruddy apartment hoping the rent does not go up too fast, not saving, not doing anything but living check to check.
Some family have complained and we said "move with us!" and they basically said their life is here. Well, guess what? Our life is definately NOT here. We cant afford it, it scares us and staying will impoverish us and put our son at a disadvantage.
As hard as they think it is for them to move out, thats how hard it is for us to stay.
