The custom barreled renegade from today. Barrel was made from a blank, fitted with a TC breech plug. 28" long with 1:60 twist.

Top 2 were me clicking the POI up a bit. Couldn't get the windage adjustment as my thumb nail was not strong enough to move it.

80gr Pyrodex RS, .010 patch "Shredded!" .530" round ball @ 60 yards.

Not to shabby for the first load i've ever tried. Going to get some .016" pillow tick some time and then really work with it. Just going to stop shooting it until I finish the barrel completely.

Actually you can expect even better groups. I shoot 70 grains of 3Fg in my .54's whether or not they are 1:56 or a TC brand 1:48. I use cotton pillow ticking for the patching material.

It bothers me that you are shredding patches. You may be using too thin a piece of patching or you may be cutting them as you load, on the lands of the rifling, or there may be a rough spot. I suspect that the pattern of your shots is a bit big due to that.

Thicker material may cure the problem. You can also try a quick polish of the barrel if you find a rough spot, by using a small piece of "green scrubbie" that you buy at the local market in the dishwashing soap aisle.

Another answer is you might consider loading about 10 grains of corn meal or grits over the powder before you load the patched ball. This helps protect the patching material.

Good luck.

My patches are only .010" very very thin. I just got the rig set up and running so I still have to figure out what shes going to want in the patch department. I did find enough goex 3f for 3 90gr charges to try out.

The patches in photo were cut with a pocket knife from a bulk piece of ticking after the ball had been thumb seated into the muzzle which accounts for the fraying. I had a wad of toilet paper between the powder and the patch...that's why the bottom of the patch is not black.

I have posterior vitreous detachment in both of my eyes. Most of the dispersion is me, not the gun.

man even with those .010" she LOVES 90gr 3f goex! 3/4" group at 60 yards today off a not so stable rest. Looking forward to shooting her more once i get some powder.
