I just got a call from my dad. I used to work with my dad and made some good friends there. One of the guys i used to work with found a couple revolver frames and thought of me. Took them to dad, and said if I could do anything with them to use them, if not then toss them. From the description, they sound like 58 Remington brass frames with probably 36 caliber barrels. No attached parts, just barreled frames.

Do I trash them, or do I pick up pieces here and there as I see eBay and gunbroker deals to reassemble them. I would love to do conversion cylinders but not on brass.

Well if you decide to toss them please toss them my way.

are these Piettas frames and barrels? I believe the Piettas used the same frame on both .44 and .36 and same internals with just a .36 cylinder and barrel.

Sounds like it. I haven’t got a picture yet, but dad said they say “black powder only”, have some proof stamps, brass frames with blued octagon barrels, have a topstrap, and have a spot for a triggerguard. Barrel looks about like a 38spl. Says Pietta. My deduction is 1858 rem due to the topstrap and triggerguard. 36 due to barrel estimation.

Unless it’s a major effort in hand fitting and timing the guns I’m going to build at least one of them. I would really like to build both in totally different ways, but I don’t foresee that happening. Before anybody gets ahead of themselves it probably a good idea to check them out and make sure they are salvageable, not stretched, warped, etc.

Barrel sleeve and convert to 32 swl???

I'm thinking they're Spiller and Burr frames as well if they're .36 caliber; mainly because I think they only built brass framed Remingtons in .44 caliber.
