I purchased a 6.5 barrel from E.A. Brown with a 1 in 8 twist for a Savage rifle I have. I haven't installed it yet, but was just curious about shooting some 120 grain bullets through that twist and if anyone has had good results with it. I have a Ruger that I shoot in the same caliber but I'm using 140's through it. It does great, but I'm looking for a lighter bullet load for this one if I can make it work. Any advice out there?

I don't see why a 120gr bullet won't work well. Your 140gr load is pushing the limits of the cartridge bullet weight wise while there is load data for bullets as light as 90gr in the 6.5 Creedmoor.

I take it you are concerned about "over stabliziation" imparted to the lighter weight/shorter bullet? With modern bullet construction, this is not a concern. The 120 gr bullet will not suffer from "over revolution".

I have a Swedish Mauser with a 1:8 twist and it seems to perform exceedingly well with 123 gr Nosler HP bullets.

I'll get around to rebarreling that Savage one of these days soon, and see how it does with the lighter bullets. Thanks for the input...

I have a savage lrp 6.5 Creedmoor and exclusively use the 123gr Hornady amax over varget and it's phenomenal!

I too have ha very good results with the 123 gr AMax, both factory and reloads. I have. 24" 1:8 twist.
