Here is a photo of the actual 6.5 Grendel next to a 223 Remington. The 6.5 Grendel was released at the SHOT show last week and everything begins shipping to consumers in March.

That 6.5 Grendel photo is actually the heaviest 6.5 Grendel magazine length bullet... 144 grain FMJBT with a .636 BC.

Very nice... do you know of any makers that are going to be producing civilian rifles using this cartridge? I can't wait to see how it shoots.

Alexander Arms LLC is producing rifles for the civilian market

18.5 inch model - A3 Upper With 4 Rail Predator Handguard
20 inch model - A2 AR15 Upper
24 inch model - A3 With Composite Handguard
28 inch model - National Match AR15 Upper

Can be purchased at http://www.competitionshooting.com

uppers range from $970.39 to $1295.00

Can standard Ar-15 mags be used with this round? Is the mag capacity affected?

My understanding is yes, but with a slight tweeking of the feed lips. Yes, the capacity would be affected, the case is much fatter, to what extent I cant say yet. As soon as I receive my upper and the supplies to start loading I will let you know. With the commercial uppers now available you get one 10 round magazine anyway.

I thought I read that the feed lips didnt need to be adjusted, just the follower switched out. SO that would be one new upper, and new followers for your magazines. Seems like a pretty fair trade for such a ballistic increase. I would love to get one of these, but I think Ill have to wait until its been on the market a few more years, and prices go down.

Follower is standard GI Green. Magazine Lips are different and the magazine bodies only have one rib per side to allow double stacking of 6.5 Grendel rounds.

Forgive me, but when I was at the SHOT show and asked for information, the people doling out the information were rude and aloof. I felt like a kid in a car dealership and they were the salespeople who didn't want anything to do wth me. When I asked to see a round, they looked at me like I was a thief trying to steal their cartridge. Excuse me?

Not that I disagree with the philosophy behind the cartridge. The 6mm SAW round was essentially the same concept. I understand that the 6.5mm is a better compromise when you are SEVERELY limited by the magazine window and receiver of the AR-15, so I'm sold on the round. I'd expect that their treatment of their customers might well spell the doom of the round, though. Let's hope not.

Badger,

Email me direct at [email protected] and I would be happy to provide you any information you desire. If you email your phone number, I will call you and can even drop a sample round in the mail tomorrow.

The only thing I can figure related to your experience was certain periods of time when some distributor sales reps were in the booth to give the rest of us a break. In either case, I want to make sure you have information you require.

Is this the round the military is interested in.

Badger - I agree, there are all too many gun sellers out there who act like they're doing us a personal favor, what is it about the gun industry that attracts the dregs of the sales world.

Various government organizations have expressed interest in the 6.5 Grendel. Unfortunately, I am not at liberty to disclose those organizations or the nature of discussions with them.

Regarding Badger's experience, Badger communicated via email with me and I called him in Alaska to answer all his questions and I will be sending a sample cartridge to him tomorrow via priority mail.

Since Badger and I have communicated many times via email, it was unfortunate that he happened to stop by when Alexander Arms and I took a break to get a coke and stretch the legs if for no other reason then to put a face with the name.

At the time Badger stopped by, a sales rep from a major distributor had offered to stand in the booth and did not have access to brass and sample cartridges to give out. In addition, he did not feel it was within his authority to remove magazines from the rifles to show people the design features. In either case, he should have been more courteous in his explanation to Badger of the reason for not being able to accomodate his requests and not give the impression he did.

That's it, I'm buying a 6.8!

One thing I can say about your booth was that I did get the information I was needing. At some booths, I didn't get an answer at all. To be fair, I approached each and every booth methodically. I had a list of questions and concerns prepared for each and a map to each booth like the kind of meticulous person I am. Some booths like the Pachmeyr booth, I asked a question, "Do you still have the capability of making the Vindicator grip for the Ithaca 37? Do you still have the dies?" and get a blank stare and a, "Could you repeat the question?" Other booths I got too much information at. I got the standard, canned sale that completely ignored the question I asked. I experienced this at the booth that sold them chemical warmers. Still others were helpful and answered all of my questions succinctly like Bond Arms and the company that makes them 50 caliber uppers for the AR-15... can't remember the name off hand.

I'll say that I am now well-informed about the 6.5 Grendall and feel like this was an unfortunate misunderstanding that in no way reflects the level of professionalism you can expect from the company. Now if I could just figure out how to spell it?

You need to name it something catchy like the 6.5mm Ranger Talon, 6.5mm Obliterator, 6.5mm Badger Arms, 6.5mm Kel-Tec, 6.5mm Edsel. How about something loathsome, mean and evil. Something beyond disgustingly hateful... How about the 6.5mm Rosie O'donnell!
