Why is the 6.5 L being touted over the 257 Weatherby when all the ballistics I can find shows the 257 superior? Is the difference in the 6.5 Creedmoor ?All the tables I have found shows the Weatherby faster and flatter???

Touted by whom? Bullet selection is probably better for 6.5 barrel life probably also. Seems like an odd comparison. Lapua was developed for competition, the Weatherby for hunting.

As stated bullet selection, and barrel life.

You could burn out a .257 Weatherby barrel just load testing, finding the best bullet, and practicing.

Then you have to re-barrel and start all over again.

Fast & flat isn't the major thing to consider in a long range accuracy caliber.

what purpose using by you ? For Competion use Lapua but if you use for hunting my advise is weatherby

This is a rather curious apples and oranges comparison. Who is touting the 6.5 Lapua over the .257 WM? And for what reason? The Lapua is a knock-off of the once popular .260 Bobcat wildcat and has proven only moderately successful in some long range competitions but nothing more. Whereas the .257 has proven an effective and popular long range varmint and big game caliber for over a half century.

...so if I fire more than 10 rnds(setting rifle up) it will burn out the barrel? How many shots before the barrel burns out??.....

That is not at all what it takes to get a load up and running for long range use. We are talking several hundred rounds of load development.

It seems that you are more looking at a gun for hunting, which I still would recommend shooting more than 10 times to get comfortable with. For hunting, take the Weatherby.

Several hundred rounds to develop a load, seriously? Wow! What kind of load would that be?

Some match shooters can take that long to get a load that they really like. Not all, not a lot, but some. I certainly haven't, but I don't have the desire to pull out every last bit of accuracy from my gun.

When you think about trying 5 different powders, 3 different bullets, lord knows how many charge weights and then add in varying the seating depth, yeah, several hundred rounds happens.

I do not load ammo. I buy Weatherby Ammo made by Norma and comes numbered...never had a failure....Hand loading is for other folks....not my habit! Now I know why Weatherby barrels get blown out....hand loading ammo...I have had my 257 for ten years and I bet I never shoot it more than ten times a year....

Proper load workup will take a few rounds. I probably have shot 200 rounds working up a load that made me happy. Then I shoot a lot at long range to learn the drops at every increment. It is a .257 WM, it is meant for long range hunting, I want to be confident, so I practice, a lot. It doesn't make sense to wait, draw a tag, pay for the hunt then not be confident when you get a shot.
