I need a couple for shipping some flintlocks. Would prefer a reasonable cost. Usual sources seem limited to "standard" lengths and the occasional item in extra length breaks the bank. Anyone know of a source? Thanks.

Most people don't like this option but try ebay. Look for a military case that large.

Probably going to be a couple hundred plus shipping. If you have a Walmart near you, see what they have or can order.

Amazon is another place you can try looking at.

Make a plywood box. Plywood on the outside of a 2x2 box frame. Glue and screw all of the plywood, except for the top. Wrap and take musket inside of good garbage bags. Fill voids with spray foam insulation. I ship manual transmissions with this method.

Thanks for the replies. I'm considering options including making a box. These are antiques so removing barrels is not an option. Some have full length stocks.

Every carrier would break the pipe. :)
Not if you use Schedule 40 PVC sewer pipe. I have seen bull dozers run over those pipes and not crush them. I have shipped a few long guns in them with no issues. They are heavy, so shipping costs will be high, but a gun properly wrapped in bubble wrap will arrive at its destination without incident. I glue a proper PVC cap on one end and on the other I drill holes to screw the cap in place.
