I am about to be the new owner of this revolver(Hopefully)@ $500. I recently bought a '71 New Frontier in 22 WMR and was planning on getting a 22 LR cylinder when this caught my attention, so I am buying a whole gun in 22 LR, lol. Supposedly the MOP grips are Colt. What do y'all think? It's nickel.

That's a good looking pistol! Looks like the grips aren't a perfect fit, but as long as they feel ok in the hand, good enough.

Is it a Frontier Scout (7/8 size) or a New Frontier (full size)?

The reason I'm asking is because I've never seen a nickle Frontier Scout,,,
That doesn't mean they never made one,,,
It's just that I've never seen one.

A 62 Scout is an alloy framed 7/8 th copy of a SAA , they are ok but nothing like the 72 era Frontier Scout which is all steel framed with other internal improvments and all USA made. The names are confusing. Frontier Scouts were made in both adjustable sight and fixed (more rare) versions :
"A year after reintroducing the SAA, Colt brought out the Frontier Scout 22 chambered in the Long Rifle cartridge. It had a decent run, ceasing production in 1970. The biggest complaint against the Frontier Scout was the anodized aluminum frame. Colt’s brass listened to its customers and brought out the New Frontier Scout with a companion .22 WMR cylinder in 1970. The frame was steel and featured Colt’s famous color casehardening. Three barrel lengths were offered, 4 3/4-inch (somewhat rare), 6-inch (most prevalent) and a very few Buntlines with a 7 1/2-inch barrel. The New Frontier Scout had an initial run from 1970 through 1977 with some 100,000 copies made. Though not particularly rare, it seems that those of us who have bought one tend to want to keep it around. Prices for the revolver I bought for $108 in 1974 are from $450 to $700 today, depending upon condition and barrel length. I checked in with Gunbroker.com and saw but four up for sale, and one was a boxed set of a New Frontier Scout with a Frontier Scout (fixed sight version). One of the other three was a post-’82 manufactured New Frontier Scout. From 1982 to 1986 the New Frontier Scout was reintroduced with a cross-bolt safety added to satisfy product-liability attorneys. Its popularity paled compared to the 1970s revolvers with only 19,000 produced. "

Use a magnet on the frame to tell what you have.

I have one of each. An original Scout and a New Frontier, adj sight convert. Night and day difference between an alloy 22 and an all steel 22/22mag version. Love them both but the NF is home to stay.

He says it is a Frontier Scout.

It's mine @ $500. Will get it sometime next week. Then I will really know what I have. I am expecting a great shooter. More pics to come and a range report.

Haven't seen all that many frontier Scouts with a nickel finish on them. I think at one time many years ago Ajax supplied faux Ivory, Mother of Pearl, and Stag grips to Colt. My Baby Browning has faux Mother of Pearl grips on it and they were made by Ajax.
