Can a standard 5.56 upper reciever except a 6x45 barrel? considering a project building a 6x45 upper an I am not all that famililar with the caliber.

It should be a direct replacement, but you'll need to keep the bullets at standard OAL to fit the magazine. I'm not sure if you can get commercial ammo or not.

The 6x45 is capable of shooting a 10-15gr heavier bullet at regular 5.56 velocities.

www.hodgdon.com has the 6x45 on their load list.

Les Baer is loading (or having loaded) the 6x45. It should be pretty nice in the AR, ive got the slightly larger 6x47 in a bolt that i realy like. w748 seems to be a good powder choice im getting round 3k with 70s out of my 24" tube

Ammo stack in the magazine is wider in the neck area.

This extra friction may limit the number of rounds that will feed reliably.

I have one, and that's the problem I experience.
I just load four rounds for deer hunting.
Honestly, I've NEVER been able to fire a meaningful second shot at deer if the first shot missed.

so i can use a standard 5.56 upper nice, what other caliber barrels is that possible, any?
also where can i find 6x45 barrels? just did a search thinking there would be alot out there and couldn't find one,so far anyways.

You can also use the same upper for the 6.8spc. As with the 6x45 it just a barrel swap. With the 6.8 you will also need to swap out the bolt.

.204
5.56x42(SPC)
6x41(SPC)
264LBC
6.8
6mmBR
6BRX
6.5mmBR
And the thumpers.

The list is a little shorter for calibers with "commonly available" ammo. All can be done for the handloader.

Re-Boring AR Barrels to 6mm

I have a couple of barrels that have been abused to the point that accuracy has been compromised. I am looking for someone who will re-bore them and chamber them to 6x45.

Anyone have contact information for this service?

why dont you just buy a new one for a couple hundred bucks?
I was thinking about it because I have the barrels sitting on the shelf, and have a problem throwing stuff away. If it was not too expensive, I'd consider it.

If I were going to buy new barrels, I would stick with the 5.56.

My worry, IF I had the barrels rebored, is that the ammo might get mixed up and someone would try to run the 6mm through a .22 barrel. Now THAT would be a mess! It is not that I am completely unorganized, it is just that with the 2 rounds being that close in size, someone might grab the wrong stuff.

it would be impossible to put a 6mm x45 into a .223 chamber. It would work the other way around though.
Just thinking that the 6mm bullet could be pushed back into the case.... Maybe you couldn't shrink the case neck down small enough to make it fit... Yeah, you're probably right.

(can still see the shooter working that forward assist like there's no tomorrow!)
