From everything I've read, as long as you get good mags they can be 100% reliable. I'm considering a 7.62x39 upper at some point in the future myself. I already have an AK and an SKS, and have a TON of ammo for them. I really don't want to add to my already-substantial caliber footprint (11 and counting) if I don't have to, despite hearing the wonders of 6.8 SPC or the allure of hard-hitting .458 SOCOM.

I've got an 18" Olympic Arms stainless 7.62x9 upper that is reliably sub-MOA at 100 yards with decent Hornady 123 gr SST. I was inspired to get mine after shooting a friend's Oly that was astonishingly accurate. As far as com-bloc fodder goes, its hit or miss, most are unremarkable, some are pretty darn good. The way I see it, the price of admission is relatively low, try one out.

I built one a few years back with a DPMS upper, once I took a few thousands off the back of the bolt I ran 100% the problem back in the old days was mags the Bushmaster 762x39 mags and the ASC (?) mags run great, they do in my gun
