hey guys/girls, Im rebuilding my poor old shot out 788 .22-250, just thinking I would really like it to be, upon resusitation, in .223. Biggest problem is finding a bolt with the right size breech face, anybody have any idea where I could find a bolt, or maybe someone is building new ones, been looking around on the net but not so much is popping up.

Only a few were ever made, and none in over 30 years. Time to let it go and buy another rather than try to rebuild.

I doubt that you'll be able to find a 222-223 size bolt available, unless someone wants to swap for a .473" bolt face.
Of course if you just rebarrel back to the 22-250, then problem solved. I don't have to tell you how great the 22-250 shoots and reaches out.

Some Remington M700 22-250 take off barrels are available on Ebay.

What cartridge are you trying to build too?? You only need 9/1000 to use 308 based cartidges. You are limited by the mag length. 257 Roberts base is slighly larger but would work just opening up the bolt face and extractor.

If it was a 22-250, he doesn't need any bolt face or extractor mods to use anything else based on the .473" rim of the .22-250 / .308 / 30-06.

Including the .257 Roberts, which is also .473".

Guys are right, I can't find diddly for bolts, old or new, some complete rifles but... I suppose with the difficulty finding parts I will just rebarrel the poor old thing to 22-250 again. Or... maby 6mm250 that might be fun.

If you're gonna do that, why not just make it into a 250 Savage?? Seems like the obvious choice to me. Medium light barrel. That would be a sweet antelope/mulie rifle

I have a bran-new 788 LEFT HAND bolt, with .308 head.....but that won't help you at all... Some day I will make someone who needs a LH bolt VERY happy! lol
