Okay, I broke down and bought a 10-inch Contender barrel on the ebay going out of business frenzy. Now I need to start loading 7mm TCU. I saw a couple of posts indicating you might want to anneal the cases before fireforming and wondered if anybody had experience on this.

Also, since I'm fireforming first loads, I was looking for an inexpensive 7mm cast bullet to start playing with - anybody have a source for those? I also load for 7mm-08, but haven't found a decent cast bullet to play with for that, either.

If you have any pet 7mm TCU loads to share, please bring 'em on!!:D

Thanks as always for your considerate help.

It's been a lot of years since I started loading for the 7mm TC/u.

Many people used to use H-4895 or IMR-4895 for the TC/u.
I liked W-748. . . UNTIL I watched a man shoot a perfect 40x40 with a Wichita pistol in "7 Ugalde".

I picked his brain for a while and discovered that my load with W-748 was pretty good, however this man said that switching to H-335 would yield better consistency, shot to shot for accuracy, and that the H-335 load would give the bullet a little more 'umph' downrange. (200 yds)

His load, that is now my favorite:

26.0 gr. H-335
Sierra 140 gr. Spire point
Winchester .223 brass
Federal 205M primer

(Size S-L-O-W-L-Y) Lube inside the casemouth with mica OR with CLP (just a 1/2 drop or less), then tumble the brass in walnut shells to 'cut' the lube after sizing.

I also polish the expander 'ball' with a dremel tool and 'red' jeweler's rouge.
Follow-up with FLITZ. You want that expander 'ball' to be slicker than snot on a doorknob.
Necking up the .223 is relatively goof-proof when the expander ball is slick and you proceed slowly.

Once the necking up is done, the next time you re-size the brass, it's really fast.

Also, the brass will be shorter than the 1.750" that is called for. I do, however, trim the casemouths so that the mouths are 'square' and equal, case-to-case, for better accuracy.

IHTH.

Long time, but i remember using IMR 4895. The FL sizing die i used would push the shoulder back way to far on the head spacing if you let the shell holder touch the bottom of the FL die.
