7X57 Load Data

I have a Winchester Model 70 in a 7X57 with a 24" barrel and I really enjoy shooting it as the recoil is medium and it is a good all around gun for anything from coyotes to elk with a good range of bullets. I worked up two loads and went to the range today and would like to post the load data in the event someone may be looking for load data for 7X57.

Nosler 120 G BT
OAL: 3.065
Three rounds produced a group of .70" @ 100 Yards. Velocity 2900 fps

OAL: 3.065
Three round group @ 100 Yards measured .90" Velocity 2850 fps

These are from a 20 inch barreled M-98 action...add 100 fps for a 24 inch barrel.
two are hunting loads and one is a target load.

Thanks for the information. I have shot Nosler 140 BT with good results but have not shot anything heavier. I was mainly working up a load for hunting coyotes. When hunting coyotes my son brings a TC Encore in a 22-250 and I bring the 7X57. Thanks again for the data.

You are getting outstanding accuracy for those light bullets. My 7x57s (my absolutely favorite caliber) don't like anything lighter than 145 gr and prefer 160 grain. One of them, a '93 sporter, won't shoot anything other than the 175 grain. But my favorite heavier bullet load was CCI primers, 49 gr. of H4831 and a 160 gr. Sierra Spitzer BT. So accurate it was scary.

I should mention that my Winchester Model 70 was rebarreled from a 25-06 to a 7X57 and the barrel is a Douglas Premium Air Guage Medium Sporter. Thus far the only problem I have ever had is with Remington Nickel Plated Brass.

The brass was/is extremly hard and split the necks of 8 rounds on the first firing and I was not even close to shooting a hot load.I have since switched to Winchester brass. I also shot some Hornady 120 G Hollowpoints and found I must set the OAL to 3.00 or less to get a decent group. Additionally, Nosler 120 BT deliver better groups for me than Hornady 120 V-Max .
