Like'm both, own'm all!!!

The 870 vs Benelli debate is a continuous one....

I solved it this way: I own'em ALL and love'm ALL...

I have:

M1S90
M1014
Scattergun Technologies Border Patrol (870)

M1S90: Very light!! Quick action, smooth, high capacity, GREAT GHOST ring sights

M1014: Robust, high capacity, eats ANYTHING, GREAT GHOST ring sights, as fast as you pull the trigger it goes bang

870 Wilson Combat: Suprisingly light, wonderful Armor-Tuff finish, smooth action, Adj. Ghost Ring Night sights

I like'em all, thats why I got'em.

If you have not shot all of them, you should be hard pressed to judge. They all serve a function. Obviously if the Marines are handing them out the M1014 or M4S90, they must get the job done...But i would never give up my 870!!!:neener:

Training.
Define Training.
I use the term in regard to muscle memory, MOA, malf's drills....BA/UU/R

I'm not hiding behind anything, I'm stating facts The previous posters , take Mr. Mayo, his "familiarity" is with the Benelli. Denny uses a 11-87, Dave a 870.

Semi-Auto...for me is the Win. SX1.

I know that gun better than the botton of my foot. 25K rds a year for many many years will do that. That design FOR ME, with the flawless reliability in all conditions - proven by me. I can keep a standard mag up , fed and running. First , I don't go to dry. If I start with unloaded gun - Like Denny said with a 870, toss shell close bolt and bang. Beretta 303 is the other one I can run "fast". The 1100, I'm a bit slower due to design.

Now I have a fella that emails me about the double bbl Shotgun. In his country he has stiff regulations and hoops to jump thru for guns and ammo.

He had been ripped into, made a fool of , for asking questions and seeking answers on this very forum. Ticked me off big time!

So I/we discuss keeping the gun fed and running. Same principls the PH's have uses with double rifles forever.

It is not the gun. It is ALWAYS the shooter. How much time and effort, how much dry fire, mounting, BA/UU/R ...

Sorry for showing up to this party late, but I just got back from being deployed a couple of weeks ago. It's hard getting used to having a computer to surf the web with.

Anyway, it's funny that Glock owners always are accused of drinking the Kool Aid. Shotgunners, of all types, seem to be more "loyal" than any handgun enthusiast, Glock or 1911, I've ever run met. ;)

Can some one clarify this quote please?
When talking about "social" loads such as buck and slugs, it has been my experience that recoil pretty much negates any advantage the auto has for the vast majority of shooters.

I've shot pumps and semis and I have never shot a semi that kicked as hard as a pump with standard loads. The very fact that the semi uses the energy from the fired cartrige would seem to dictate that the semi would have less felt recoil than a pump.

I trained with an 870 when I attended a police academy. I trained with a Mossberg in the Navy. In fact, I was trained by a Blackwater instructor at a Navy weapons course. I'm quite comfortable with a pump gun. I have never short-stroked a pump to my recollection, and I have seen men that can shoot faster with a pump than I can with a semi. That being said. The gun that is by my side at home. The gun I bought on my own dime and spend my salary to train on is the Benelli M1014. YMMV.

Dont wanna rain in this variation of the old "mines better than yours debate" but in a realistic home defense situation, aint gonna take more than one shot of #4 buck from close range top put the owie on the baddie.

Well, from the few 3-gun matches I've attended/shot in, it is evident that the semi gets you a time advantage. I don't know how that'd translate to a social engagement advantage, but there it is. It is a rare day when you see a pump gunner beat a semi guy for overall time. (It obviously can be done though.) I don't know if that is because most of the good shooters gravitate toward semis though, so take that for what it is worth.

A semi is much easier to use in awkward positions. I'm fairly certain if there's a contest between pump and semi, and both users are standing normally, there'll only be advantage for the better shooter, not the firearm. Go prone, hang out of car windows, lay on your back, or do anything awkward, and the semi will have the advantage. This may or may not be important and/or applicable to you. Some 3-gun matches seem to be designed most devilishly to test your physical flexibility as well as your shooting prowess.

Do I feel under-gunned with a pump gun? Heck no. They work. I haven't seen as much short strokeage as others have. I think I've had exactly one malfunction in my Mossberg 500 since I started shooting it, and I've got thousands of rounds through it. I've seen more malfs out of semis. No judgement, just a fact. I do own a semi, and I'd feel fine if I hadda fall back on it for a "social engagement."
