I got some night sights for an IC barrel for home defense and general shooting. It is exactly like the express slug barrel but it has the IC bore instead of a rifled one. I had no problem replacing the rear sight, but the front sight seems to be epoxied in place. Is there some trick to getting this sight out? Also, will I need to use epoxy while replacing it?

Try a little penetrating oil and a nice tap with a brass punch.....the barrel and base should be well supported so the energy from the punch is transfered completely to the sight.

It's probably just seized on there but it's possible that someone used loctite which might need a little heat to break loose....a good solid tap should do it but like I said try and support the base and barrel with a wood block.

Not sure if it makes a difference on a rem 870 but I'd try drifting it out towards the right side.

The easiest way to do it is with a sight pusher tool, but it can be managed if you don't have one. Be aware that the dovetail in the sight base is cut with a taper, and therefore the existing sight blade should be pushed out from left to right (looking from breech to muzzle) and the new sight blade installed from right to left. It may be necessary to adjust the new sight blade a tiny bit to fit the dovetail with a fine-cutting file (Swiss file) or stone, try it in the dovetail and see how it goes. Note you don't want it too loose, 'just right' is what you are looking for. It shouldn't take epoxy to achieve that.

Take your time and be careful,
