ive got an 870 super mag that i picked up for duck and goose hunting about 2 years back. great gun but one issue, it stretches me out when i shoulder it.

the LOP is good and fits me well but it just stretches my left arm (my bad arm) out too far. any way to shorten this up? shortening the stock would help but since the stock isnt bad id rather not do it.

any ideas?

Wayull..... I've done it on two Mossbergs, an 835 and a 500. First you strip it and take the slide off the mag tube. Then you take the plastic off the slide tube. Inside the plastic's channel are ribs/whatever that hold the slide tube in position. You grind those out at the rear to let the slide tube move further forward. Then you'd need to fabricate a spacer for the front end so the tube nut has something to butt up against and hold everything together. Odds are good you'd also need to do some relief grinding of the plastic at the rear for clearance at the receiver when the slide is fully rearward. And, prolly a little relief grinding at the top of the plastic for clearance of the chamber swell on the barrel.

It's a lot of fussy work, and grinding plastic just plain stinks. You might be better off searching the web for a replacement fore-end piece that's set back.
