When did Remington build the 870 with rolled on engraving on the receiver sides. I have found one
with a 28 inch barrel and choke tubes. Nice stock set with cut checkering.
Left side of receiver says Remington Wingmaster 870 and scroll type engraving.
Right side is just the scroll type engraving. The gun is in great condition and right now it is in layaway.

I would like to more about it.

Email Remington with the serial number, or call them, and they will tell you the year made.

I received a response from Remington, I was hoping to find out what variation and production figures of the gun. All they sent was info that I already knew.

It seems that Remington is very tight lipped about any history of the guns they make.

Someone on another web site mentioned cartridgecollectors.org, the site has a listing of the Remington catalogs from 1911 to 2011.

I have found the catalog (1996) that lists the gun I have purchased. The barrel code indicates it was made Oct. 1996. Now I just have to check the catalogs listed (pdf. files)
to find out how long this variation was made.

I believe they stayed with the decorated receiver through 2003 on Wingmaster field models, and then went back to the plain sides. They did the same with the semi auto and pump rifles.
