    That's what the 6.5x55 got.

    NECG Ruger aperture sight.

    Very nice, E.

Remember what ammo you were using?

solid copper barnes, if I,m not mistaken. I was carrying a CZ-550 in 375 H&H and my ph ask if I wanted to try the 9.3x62 on it and I said you bet. the first shot tore the arties off the top of the heart and the second shot went thru the brisket with out entering the chest cavity, the third shot broke its back and down it went at about 40 yards. the first shot would have killed it, but he didn,t want to have to track it and I didn,t either.

Finally got around to mounting the Leupold VX-1 2-7x33mm (Wide Duplex) on the new 9.3 African.

Ruger C/S was nice enough to send me a coupla #3 rings, one/ea for the 9.3 and 6.5, Gratis, to be mounted ahead of the OEM #4 front ring that is moved to the rear, and the #5 OEM rear ring binned.

Except that apparently Ruger only produces them in matte black finish, which matches the scope, but not the OEM rings that are gloss blue and match the rifle.

So I just hit the gloss ring lightly w/ a green abrasive Scotch-brite pad to take a little of the shine off it.

Looks OK - and have no doubt that it will not affect the rifle's precision.

    :D

Rig is weighing in at ~ 9 lbs, as the stock is a piece of especially sweet and sappy loose grain black walnut that adds maybe half a pound.

No argument though, as the Bbl. muzzle is so thin it damn near looks like a shotgun, using the same contour as the 6.5x55 chambering!

    Handling is balanced and nimble.

Eye alignment provides ~ 1/2" of cheek bone clearance on the cheek weld.
(Which, given the recoil profile of this thumper, will surely come in handy.)

Feeding and ejection of PPU ammo are positive, and bolt/scope clearance is minimal acceptable.

    Ready for the range.

It was developed 1905-1906 in Germany to provide German settlers with inexpensive bolt gun for African use. While two cartridges are not interchangeable (different case & bullet diameter)
from practical point of view the only difference between 9.3x62 and .35 whalen is the standard bullet for former is 293gr and 250gr for the latter.
The optimum weight for 9.3x62 rifle alone would be same as .375H&H or 8lb to 8.5lb. With all around scope like Meopta R2 1.7-10x42 one could hunt just about anything. Incidently military M60 machine gun sling is very good to have for outfit like this.

I pulled out my ole' clunker for you.....
    20190704_173014.jpg

Modern hunters would help themselves out by slowing down them ole game cartridges. For example, nothing but recoil and blast would be reduced if .375 H&H was downloaded by 200fps. Many slower yet effective cartridges from the past: 9.5MS 270gr 2150fps, .318RNE 250gr 2400fps, .333RNE 300gr 2150fps,......

    RNE=rimless nitro express

At this late date, you may need the services of a Swamp Witch just to find one.

I found one, and sadly had to let it go. Other obligations are pressing at the moment. :(
