9 mm Bullets - does a name matter?

Is there a problem reloading 9mm rounds with an "off-brand" or "generic" 115 gr FMJ bullet? In other words, the bullets are not a Winchester bullet or some other "brand name" of bullet.

If I just concentrate on the load recipe etc, does the bullet "brand" matter?

No, the name doesn't matter.

The construction, weight & shape do matter when picking load data.

There are FMJ Plated bullets, and FMJ jacketed bullets.
They use different load data because the hardness is different.

There are FMJ-RN and FMJ-TC shapes.
They use different load data because the bearing surface is different.

It can. But - honestly - by the time you factor in your primer, powder (and, sometimes, even powder position in the case), temperature, and the gun itself, the bullet could shoot differently out of different guns, anyway.

I suppose a more premium bullet SHOULD shoot more precisely and accurately than a generic, "plane jane" bullet. But SHOULD and ACTUALLY don't always work right. I had a Savage 110 in .270 - it would shoot vanilla 130gr Remington Core-Lokt like a lazer beam. I tried some of the more expensive ammo and it didn't shoot as well. Hmph...go figure!

No, just start with a starting load for the same type bullet, and work up from there.

By same bullet I mean: If a manual says to use X brand 115 FMJ, and all you have is Y brand 115 FMJ, you will be fine.
