9mm 147gr dirty question

I loaded up 147r 9mm (RMR) loads with CFE Pistol using Hodgdons data. Im about in the middle of their suggested load. They shoot fine, slide locks, etc,etc.

Problem is they are super dirty, cases and the pistol.

Would Titegroup be cleaner, should I bump up the load or is this just the way 9mm subs are ?

Welcome to THR.

CFE Pistol is relatively slower burning powder and loading at lower charges will cause it to burn dirty.

You could try increasing the powder charge but if you are looking for slower subsonic loads that burn cleaner, you may want to try faster burning powders.

If you want clean get some VV N310 or N320.

I tried out CFE Pistol for Missouri's 147 gr. with Hi-Tek coating. With the COAL at 1.060", work up loads from 3.8-4.0 gr. My averages ranged from 942-974 fps. Shot 50 of them in those ranges. IIRC, recoil moderate. No sooty cases and gun cleanup was normal.

The only time I got sooty cases with CFE Pistol was in 45 Auto, and the load was at the middle to low end.
