i really need some help i just got a great deal on some bullets and cannot seem to find a recipe for it.i am loading speer gold dot 124 gr. in 9 mm. and i would like to use a hs6 powder any info would help such as col. and max and min charge thanks
The current #13 Speer manual does indeed list the above loads for HS-6, these are not 2 recipes to be followed by rote but a start load and a maximum load. Work up to the maximum and don't go over. Speer lists the COAL at 1.120" with either the Gold Dot HP or the SP bullet.
Well, I'd say that's because hollow-point bullets often represent a "cut off" profile compared to FMJs, 'cause of the hole.
The ogive, forward curve, etc. can be too broad way out there in front for some HPs if loaded to max OAL.
I had some JHPs I loaded a bit long a year or two ago. Worked fine in one gun but wanted to hang up in another if I was ejecting an unfired round. I just popped 'em another .05 deeper and called it good. That happened to cure the 1 out of 200 rounds I was having hang up during feeding.
