A Chinese SKS question and O'Fudds gun store

I've said it before. . .

. . . and I'll say it again. ANY use of the term "FUDD" is a bad idea in any situation. Unless it is explained thoroughly before use, it can easily be misinterpreted as a negative comment directed at all hunters, saying they are as stupid as Elmer Fudd being outsmarted by "wascawy wabbits". Some people understand that a 'FUDD' is an anti-2A hunter, or a hunter who wants to get rid of all guns except his own. Most people don't understand it.

Any hunter who doesn't KNOW what "FUDD" really means will be insulted by reading it, guaranteed.

IMHO, use of the word "FUDD" serves to widen the rift between 2A types and hunters

Will, I took a skeet class from a shotgunner of quality who certainly also appreciated the theoretic issues of the RKBA.

Of course it is the case that many hunters and sport shotgunners appreciate the issues.

I was outraged by the sheer rudeness of the clerk. I had seen it towards myself in other visits. Yes, some of the younger folk in the store may be decent but I've not really had a pleasant experience with their staff. In San Antonio, there are two similar types of gun stores. One, Dury's is very pleasant and thus has gotten a fair amount of business from me. The other on San Pedro - only if I'm short a gadget and in a true time bind.

About Fuddiness - since that attitude can be proactively used as an attack on the RKBA as we saw with Zumbo and Levin's use in the Senate, I'm getting less tolerant for it.

We should all get along but the movement should come from their side.

It is not because you hunt that I'm upset with the attitude. I've gone hunting. It is the individuals who sport the O/U shotgun and then want to sign a new AWB if it gets to their desk.

I'm repeating myself - you get the point.

The clerk could have taken the young man aside and explained it.

GEM, I think you should simply take your business elsewhere. I do understand the use of the term. I equate it with the "N-word" as used by Whites. It is too easy to use the word; either word. It is degrading and yes, I know you WERE trying to be insulting. Using the "N-word" is also intended to be insulting in most cases. Redneck is another one of those surficially harmless words that is used to insult. It is so common now, but in the past it was truly insulting. Jim Crow was another one.

I have gotten a similar reaction or reception at a few gun stores, usually mom & pops. I first ask myself why are they reacting to me that way? My ego is such that I usually blame myself first until I work through it. There are often two sides to a story.

With regard to the small gunshops... sometimes you can find very interesting firearms at reasonable prices. Usually it is the opposite. But, if you find something special for a great price in 20 visits, I keep coming back and checking their inventory. I bought a 2.5" NIB Colt Diamondback 22 at about half market price in one of these shops and the possibility of finding something special always keeps me coming back.

I don't like gunshops providing incorrect information as they are supposed to know the business. But you get flawed, incomplete, and generally incorrect information all over the place, including this forum. I bought a black powder rifle from Dury's and I had to instruct them on the law as far as shipping and so forth. The fact is Dury's just doesn't deal with many BP firearms and maybe this gunshop also doesn't deal with the accessories your acquaintance was seeking there often. The guy behind the counter may have been just having a bad day. We all have bad days from time to time. Forgive and forget.

$0.02

well, whether this guy fits any specific definition of "fud",
i believe the proper polite word for him and those like him is JERK.
my dad use to call guys like this mullets, having nothing to do with the hair style, mullet is a salt water bait fish that is not known for being smart.

Part of it is also SNOBBERY. I know several trapshooter/birdhunter types who own more than one $15,000+++ shotgun, usually an over and under, that do not believe the "unwashed masses" should be armed.

In their opinion, NO ONE has any legitimate need for a pump, lever action, or semi-auto for hunting. Dnd those damn pistols are only good for "low class" criminals to rob, rape and murder their "betters" with.

How do ya reason with these rich, arrogant, arse-wholes??
