Hey guys. I just had a couple of questions regarding Kentucky law.

1- Without a CCW, it's still legal to keep a handgun in your glove compartment. This is what I will be doing until I get my CCW. My question is: How do you get your handgun between your home and your car without it being considered "carrying concealed"? Is it alright to have it in its case or in a backpack in between? I guess this question has to do with what exactly is considered carrying a concealed deadly weapon when not in your home or car...

2- What's the proper way to bring a handgun into a gunshop to have it looked at? I want to take my handgun in to my local gunshop to have them look at a problem I'm having with the decocker, but am unsure what way it should be brought in.

TIA.

As far as going from your car to your home you can put it however you want you don't have to have a cdw to carry concealed on your own property. The glove box is the only legal place besides the trunk and it can be locked and loaded. Going in to a shop I carry it with the slide locked open and no mag in it.

Thanks for the response.

Say you live in an apartment complex though. To get from my car to my apartment I have to walk in the parking lot and areas immediately surrounding my apartment. There are also a lot of policemen around here.

If I have my gun in my pocket going from my car to my apartment and a cop decides to ask me some sort of friendly question about this that or the other...what then? I'm not saying this is likely to happen, but I would like to be in accordance with the law.

Open carry is legal in Kentucky, taking it from your car to an apartment you should be fine if holstered and visible. Or just put it in an enclosed box, unloaded and carry it in.

And you are legal to carry in the glove box. Center console as stated earlier is a no-no.

If you still have the original box for the firearm, just put it in there unloaded and bring it in to the shop. They'll verify it's unloaded.

And relax...this is KY, not NYS etc.;)

Thanks for the responses. In response to the open carry, I prefer my gun to my business and to not advertise. I might just stick with the pocket routine...

Thanks again.

Most shops around here prefer you not bring a loaded gun in. I usually bring it in with a case.
Make sure the mag is out also. They will want to check it clear themselves.

Kentucky as a whole is very gun friendly. Most people don't even give you a second glance when carrying a gun just about anywhere.
